Been a year or more since I last participated. Have learned a bit of javascript since then. Will try that out.

Will use:
* Ubuntu 15.04
* Atom Editor
* Gulp because someone told me
* Aseprite for drawing
* Phaser game library

Hope to get together something since I only have the evening.

Good luck people!

So now I have something that is kinda playable but not very fun. Its way more “advanced” than my first attempt at ludum dare, but still a lot more ugly:)

Im in again!

This is my second time participating in this awesome challenge. Last time my goal was to finish something and I succeeded! This time I have the same goal but hopefully I can produce something better than last time.

I was planning to use java to get around the nasty porting problems but didn’t have time to prepare properly.
What i will use:

OS: Ubuntu 13.10
Language: C++
Editor: Eclipse
Libraries: http://www.sfml-dev.org/
Graphics: Gimp
Sound: http://www.drpetter.se/project_sfxr.html
Music: http://www.abundant-music.com/ or something similar.
Version control: https://github.com/

I will probably use the same spotify playlist as last time:

It’s awesome

Good luck everybody!

Rocket Rampage post mortem

This was my first ludum dare and i will definitely be in again! I had so much fun and learned loads.

I always have a few projects running but I never manage to finish any of them because I have too grand plans. The great thing about ludum dare were that i needed finish in 48 hours, I couldn’t think “Well, this took 9 hours, didn’t do shit, but I will thank myself later!”. I had to learn to “kill my darlings” and to do it fast! I am kinda surprised that actually finished! The game I made is far from good but I couldn’t be prouder!

Some things I will try to remember til’ next time:
1. Start with a small idea. I mean really really small. I thought I did that this time but cut half of my planned features anyway. It’s less of a pain to go from smaller to bigger then the opposite…

2. Make a really crappy but functional game first. What is needed to make the game even playable? Add that first.

3. Try the game on more than one computer. I had loads of problems with people that couldn’t play it or had really weird behavior.

4. Don’t drink yourself to sleep half into the competition. I went on a party and had to make most of the game while trying to keep my stomach on the inside..

Thanks for a great ludum dare!

Play my game, Rocket Rampage

I actually finished!

I am so proud for finishing and making a game that is actually playable! Ludum dare was so fun and I will be in next time as well!

I only got a fraction of my plans for my game done and I hope I submitted it correct! It will be ported for windows as soon as my girlfriend lets me sit at a computer again, she thought I was boring this weekend :)

Some progress

Way to hungover today for linear algebra or sitting in a chair but I managed to get something together! Almost playable now, just need to add the +10 seconds powerups and start/gameover screen.

I have a huge list of things i would like to add but cant get it all=/ A name would be good too, suggestions?

What i will be using in my first Ludum dare!

  • Ubuntu 13.04
  • C++
  • Eclipse
  • SFML 2.1
  • sfxr
  • Gimp
  • Coffee/cigarettes

Any thoughts about this?

Tried out adding some animations yesterday and even if it looks like crap it’s working!

Pretty¬†psyched to be in! My main goal is just to finish and have something playable. Usually I start a project (way to ambitious) and never complete, but not this time…

Sadly I will not have all 48 hours since real world things clash with this but hopefully I have enough to make “something”.

Happy coding people!
