I’m proud to say I’ve finished my second Ludum Dare competition and this time, with decent graphics and music!(though it still is lacking on sound effects…) Play it here: http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-35/?action=preview&uid=56083Screenshot (21)

Seriously, go try it out!

My last game only had placeholder art, so I made sure to actually have real graphics in this one. This is my first time doing pixel art and pixel animation and I’m pretty happy with it.CopIcon

7 Hours In

I started at about 9:00 pm today (well, technically yesterday) and now it’s 4:00 am, so I’m 7 hours in. I have most of the core mechanics down and I made the background music while taking a break from coding. The game is based on the game Mafia, but a little different, so it can be adapted to be a single player video game.  Basically, there’s a shape-shifter in town who kills a villager each night and stashes their body in a random garbage can. It’s your job as a police officer to discover who the shape-shifter is, by learning each person’s speech patterns or by discovering bodies of people who have been killed, and kill him before he can kill anyone else.

Hi, everyone. This will be my second time entering the Ludum Dare competition. Last time (LD33), I managed to complete a game, but it was more of a prototype than a game because I didn’t have enough time to replace the placeholder graphics or add music and sound effect. This time, thos ehtings will be more of a priority and I’ll make sure to get them done!

  • Engine-Unity 3D
  • Graphics-Photoshop, Illustrator, or Blender
  • Sound-Audacity, Bosca Ceoil, Bfxr

The Monster in Man

I’m happy to say I’ve finished an entire game with a menu, a store with upgrades and a single level that gets progressively more difficult. I didn’t have time to do any fancy graphics, make music, or add sound effects, but hey, I’m still in high school, this is my first Ludum Dare and I started more than 24 hours into the competition. I consider this a huge success and I learned a lot from it.

Help Please!!

I’m freaking out right now. I finished my game and built it before the time was up (I’m using Unity). I tried to test the build though, just to double check that everything is working properly and the buttons don’t work at all in the build, even thought they do in the editor. Does anyone know a fix for this??

Playable level!

The first level’s playable! The longer you take to kill the enemy, the fewer donations you get. The more civilians you kill, the fewer donations you get. If you kill too many civilians, you lose and become a “monster”. Now to add a store and more levels. Then, I can work on graphics. You can click the picture to see the gif.

5 hours in!

5 hours in and I just need to add the ability to win/lose for the first level to be playable. I spent 3 hours on the simplest ai ever though… The civilians and enemies just walk to a random way point and avoid each other, but hey at least its playable now!

Late Start

I was busy all day today so I wasn’t able to start until a couple hours ago. For the idea, I decided to be more figurative instead of actually having the character as a monster. Instead, he’s a soldier and he becomes a monster by missing enemies(red) and instead, hitting civilians(blue). So far, the bombs drop, houses get destroyed and people die. Now to start on the AI….

I’m in for my first time. I don’t know how much I’ll be able to do so I’ll aim small, but hopefully it’ll be fun!

I’ll be using:

  • Unity 5 for the game engine.
  • Gimp for 2d graphics.
  • Blender for 2d graphics.
  • My guitar and audacity for music (I’m not especially good, so it’ll just be simple).
  • BFXR for sound effects.
