As you all remember we made Fluffy Horde  back in LD34. Now we are taking it to another level and releasing it on steam by the end of the year. Here is our latest asset ;D

“OUCH, I thought bunnies were supposed to be cute and harmless!”

This game jam was a war. We decided to participate in this me and other 3 guys (2 game designers, 1 artist and 1 programmer). As LD36 were getting close one of the game designers gave up. We proceeded anyways. The first hours of the jam were great, we came up with various ideas from navigation to black smith economy based game…in the end we decided to make a survival. That’s when all the problems started.

The scope was too big and we had to shrink it down, maybe by a fourth. I went back to the drawing board and redesigned it. Even then thing weren’t looking good, so I decided to call another coder (this was mid sunday!). This new coder came along but he told me his hope was not very high. I thought of giving up. Later that day I contacted another programmer to help us (My buddy bash) and he accepted!

After almost giving up 3 or 4 times I give you…. Miky the Inuit

After my tiny rant, here we go!

Slash Quest: This title carries a intriguing mechanic with a top notch graphics and on top of that they used both themes. You guys made the whole brazilian scene proud as hell.

Parse the Sky: Recipe to make a game like this one? Put inside the blender A Pink Floyd Album (The happy ones), Starfox 64 and tiny drop of acid. In therms of aesthetics this one beats most of games that I have on Steam.

Double Kick Heroes: Mood has a huge impact when it comes to the experience, but usually people only care about the zen-moody-relaxing vibe when it comes to mood. Double kick Heroes shows you that you can get hyped-up with the right elements in place. I have not doubt that this one will hit at least TOP10 in several categories.

Orb Lords: It’s hard to innovate in the pinball genre, it’s even harder to make a good innovation that does not suck and it’s almost impossible make give a REAL sense of progression without relying only on points. Well…Orb Lords knocked out of the park, this is the game I played the longest (feeling like playing it right now) and Im not a huge pinball fan! It’s hard to explain why it’s so good, just go ahead and play the damn thing.

Conga Master: This game made me sad, because it made me realize I will never enjoy life like the characters in it. I really wish there was a Conga bar in the city I live in so I could become a real Conga Master. In this gem of a game you feel the enjoyment of those little pixel people….Im so envy right now.

Now that I’m done with my list here is what we made for LD34! Hope you guys have a great time with Fluffy Horde.

Happy Xmas everyone!

Turnaround Story

The original subject of this post was  supposed to be “My Top7 LD34 games”, but I want to share a more important experience. After 4 crazy days filled with stress, domestic arguments, team tensions, heavy editing and a ungodly amount of unhealthy food…Fluffy Horde made to the LD.

My first reaction was to send the link to friends and other devs. Unfortunately it was pretty late of here in Brazil and only one person (game/dev) was online, “At least one person is online…Lucky!” I thought at first. I was deadly wrong.

Since I don’t want to drop names, let’s just call him Skinner. The chat conversation went like this.

Me: Dude, Just finished my first LD game! Want to play it?

Skinner: Sure! Why not.

Me: Did you make one?

Skinner: Nope.

Me: Cool, here is the link.

(Minutes after)

Skinner: Do you want the real talk or the friend talk?

Me: Just be honest with me.

Skinner: It’s messed-up.

Me: continue..

Skinner: I was not sure what to do at first and then After a while I figured-out how to play it, I found it boring as hell.

Me: Go on…

Skinner: The intro was more or less, the art is just ok and the game itself is shit.

Me: I think the intro is pretty good.

Skinner: hehhhh we can go with that….

Me: Let’s see what people think

Skinner: Yeah….

Then he went on being sarcastic saying this would be game of the year. After the conversation was over I was a bit depressed.

Calling a fellow dev game “shit”? How constructive is that? Don’t get me wrong, he was right in many things he pointed-out and we already made some tweaks based on his feedback, but he could do that without being a total asshole.

I come from the Ad industry and it’s very common to redo work here and there, but being a dick is different thing.

After the storm…

The following days were amazing! We got some awesome feedback from people all around the globe! Here are some of them:

Even a mobile company contacted in order to make a deal with us. After all of this positive vibe, we will turn it into a full game!!

Assholes are just like the bunnies in Fluffy Horde, they are everywhere and they can be very misleading, but you can always turn things around.

First of all, here is the link for our game :)

Hey guys, Bashar Saada the programmer of Fluffy Horde here
So we’ve been awake since 4 am yesterday, 3 red bulls, 2 coffees, 3 cups of tea later. Story mode… see some of the amazing art of #Tinystuffz, and Will bonds amazing Voice acting,
Its a shame that a ton of assets were unused :/ I think overall, Ernani (The game designer) was frankly too good for his own good, he got us too many epic people to give us amazing assets for my tired brain to handle programming into the game in this limited amount of time :(
Anyways still turned out alright imo, but a lot of the story assets are missing, too many for me to be able sleep easy at night (Might be the caffeine :S). If I find time, maybe some day soon i’ll get to add all of the missing assets and upload it somewhere, because it is a shame :/

Check out: Most of us (TinyStuffz, Ernani, me and Will) are part of the turtle clan: V
