Half time update

Half time is remaining for me, as I begin my second day now.

The first one I did what I expected to do, but I realize that the remaining day will be more challenging.

Yesterday I made the code structure and a bit of styling, I can load levels, come back to menu, store scores, and what is common for all level is done too. As I explained in my previous post, I had a second goal, as important for me as making a game : experiment on new code architectures I never fully tried in JavaScript.

I came up with an almost-fully eventified code, with very weak dependencies between modules. After the contest, I’m going to look at it better, because at some points I made quick hacks, in order to have something finished today.

I’ll clean it later, and probably I’ll put it on github soon.

Today I’ll really be working on the game itself, which is quite simple, but I would like to polish it and have time for calibration.

Hi folks,

 

Quick hello from Paris (France), and some explanations.

This is my first Ludum Dare.

I’m a javascript web developper,  I’m pretty bad at drawing, but I can play some music. So I’ll try a game concept that fits with my abilities. And because I’m interested in code architecture (for game and webapps), I want to try new way of organizing my code. So this Ludum Dare won’t just be for me a rush to make a nice game quick, but a way to experiment with code. I know I’ll be far less efficient this way, and it’s why I won’t go into some complex game.

I hope I’ll have a game ready for tomorrow. I aim at :

– use of audio,

minimalistic graphics,

html5 with JS and CSS. I could use some canvas if I still have time, but maybe better to keep it simple

– gameplay around time perception. Can you feel 10 seconds ? I imagine lot of entries will go this way, but I’ll try to twist your brain, add perturbations…

 

Now I’ve worked on the structure, how to add and load levels. For the rest of the day I’ll add one or two proof of concepts levels, then I’ll work on the UI.

Tomorrow I’ll really work on the levels, adding new levels, tweaking,  polishing, recording audio… until the contests ends.
