Played a good few games so far, and there are a handful that stick out in terms of innovation and polish. If you are looking for good games to play or to learn a few new innovative design tricks, these are definitely for you. Hopefully some of them get developed further:

PERMUTATE by TravisChen

PERMUTATE is an interesting look into movement design and how it can shape a game. I would really like to see a game like this developed further. There are a lot of directions and combinations you can take puzzle creation with such a unique movement system!


55 Days by V4lesti

55 Days is a neat little tycoon-like puzzle game. The game feels like it is built for mobile, and it runs on ActionScript I believe, but it is by no means a cheap game. This game is a very polished and soothing experience. If you are looking for a way to kill some time, this is your answer. I could definitely see a game like this selling well on the mobile/HTML5 market.


Soothsayer Simulator 2016 by iceburg7

I know the name and look of the screenshot would suggest that it isn’t an amazing design test, but it is. A very creative venture on the part of iceburg7. I won’t say more about this in fear of spoiling it!

Just finished programming the menus in my game.. Still a little more to go. I really hate making menus, but I think I found a nice way to teach players how to play the game before they begin without being invasive: suck a frog :)

Metal-ish Music?

Turns out I have a sound cloud that’s about 5 years old! I spent an hour or so putting together some okay music. My game is about going fast so I wanted music that reflected that.. Tried to go for a sort of.. game-ish metal thing? I’m not really a big metal fan but I thought it would be appropriate. Let me know what you think!

Frogs and Junk

I don’t usually take to regular platformers that much, but it was all I could really think of doing. It turns out they’re harder than they look to make haha. Took a while to get the physics right.


Currently I have the suction mechanism done and all the platforming physics. I’m going to add some lava and shrubs and then maybe make it all random. Then on to juice!

I’m currently studying abroad in Japan, so this is going to be a little weird for me, but how can I turn down an LD?

This will be my second LD since I missed the last one. The last time I did the compo I got 22nd place with SPACE JUNK. Hopefully I’ll do better this time, I’m going to try Game Maker this time around instead of Java/LibGDX I think.

SPACE JUNK #22 and Post Mortem

SPACE JUNK: Pretty Much Done and Generating a Character!

Last night right before I went to bed I made some nachos and ended up staying up until 6 composing the music for the game. It’s a short 48 second clip that loops but I think it fits the game well and doesn’t distract while adding a bit of ambiance!

I’d really like to show the intro a bit, but spoiler will be spoilers. Instead, here’s a clip of the generation screen in action, where you can generate, review the stats of, and test your shmup boss!

I also ended up on the name SPACE JUNK, in all caps because if I yell at you you’ll pay attention. :)

I’m just making some passes cleaning up code and hopefully speeding things up a little, just in case some lower end PCs have trouble. The game is completely cross platform thanks to the magic of Java!


I hope everyone is still having tons of fun! I know I sure am!

Randomly Generating to Randomly Blowing Things Up

After a long day of putting in bullets, sounds, a story, and an actual game, I can say I really like what I’ve made. Still no name though!

Playing with a different shmup boss each time really adds to it in my opinion! Sometimes you just get the coolest weapon set up!

All that’s left is to make a song, do a little testing, and polish it up! (more…)

Hello everyone! After almost giving up on my idea, I finally managed to make a random generator that I think really produces some amazing results. The last one is my favorite. I see an alien skull in it. What do you see? I hope everyone is having as much fun as I am!
