Flipsy Shapes title screen

I’ve finally published the post jam version of my LD35 entry Flipsy Shapes and put it up on the App Store for free with no ads. It’s a short arcade-style shape matching game with ten levels. If you were playing it right now instead of reading this you’d already be on Level 2. Enjoy.

Download on the App Store

Good night!

Some more progress shots. I’m very happy with how things are going so far. Looks like I am back to doing the competition. It’s getting late down under and I’m getting older, so time for bed soon. Good luck to everyone working away or just starting. Until tomorrow. Perhaps…

Round 1 of Theme Voting is live

Posted by (twitter: @flipsy)
Monday, April 17th, 2017 3:40 am

Round 1 (and 2) of theme voting are live at:  https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/theme

There is no official post here (and it’s not super obvious at ldjam.com) so I thought I’d let people know.

There was no official warm-up weekend :(

Comments coming soon on ldjam.com, apparently. Not sure if this means public posting as well.

Edit: Comments are now working on ldjam.com, posts are meant to be coming soon.

Seems like there really should be some clear communication on all this stuff.

Urban Survival

Do you have what it takes to survive the mean streets of New York? Think again. If you’re lucky the food poisoning or criminals will get you before the rats.

URBAN SURVIVAL is a short, silly, brutal DOS text adventure written in QBasic for MiniLD #71: THE RETRO CHALLENGE. Fire up an old PC or crank up DOSBox and give it a whirl (as my grandma would say).

A) Get the game

B) Get DOSBox

UPDATE: Running fine in Windows XP (for me a least)  So may work in other versions of Windows as well.

I’ve just finished my entry for MiniLD #68:

Ninja Man vs The Green Sticks of Doom IV (Save the Battery Hens) .

A light-hearted game about the horrors of factory farming, featuring an impressive array of 16 full colour sprites and 2 sound effects.

MiniLD #68 – Work in Progress

Ninja Man vs The Green Sticks of Doom IV (Save the Battery Hens) will be a homage to the games I thought of making, tried to make, and did make during my childhood. With a nod to some of the game I enjoyed playing as well.

Below is a work in progress screenshot. I don’t have a lot of time so I’ll see how far I get but I’ll finish a couple of screens at least.

minLD #68 Work in Progress

The games:

Save the Battery Hens: Although I only ever played the demo and read the reviews I was deeply infatuated with Creatures on the Commodore 64. Save the Battery Hens was going to be my take on the torture screens from the game. 10 PRINT ‘HELLO!’ 20 GOTO 10 wasn’t quite going to get me there though. So drawings and dreams was as far as it got.

Ninja Man vs The Green Sticks of Doom: Was a series of games I attempted to make that had increasingly sophisticated graphics and increasingly nonfunctional game play. The first outing was an ASCII effort in GW Basic. My last attempt (21 years ago) and the third in the series was written in QuickBasic with the help of a VisualBasic utility I wrote to turn .ico files into .txt files that I would then render pixel by pixel in QuickBasic.

Spy: Was an ASCII action puzzle game written in QuickBasic that had six fully playable levels loaded from text files. It most closely resembles the MiniLD #68 entry I’m working on.

Good luck everyone. Looking forward to seeing all your games.

Acorns and Caterpillars. My MiniLD 67 entry.

I’m so happy to be able to take part in another MiniLD. It’s a great theme and there is lots of interesting entries showing up.

Here is my effort a 2 player remix of Snake/Blockade. Avoid hitting yourself or your opponent. Bump acorns to clear your path. Last standing caterpillars wins.

Special thanks to Amanda for the sprites.

And we’re done! Our 2nd Ludum dare completed. I’m really happy with what we got done in a day and a half. A decent chunk of which was spent having fun playing the game! Good to have Ludum Dare here to give that push.

Concept by my 11 year old son, programming by me, and title screen by my talented wife. I would add another level but have work to get on with tomorrow :(

Entry Here if you’re interested in some shape matching goodness.

I plan to release a mildly updated version for free on iOS and Android soon.

Day 2 Update

The good thing about doing the Jam is having fantastic team mates that have your back. After a late start yesterday I made some good progress. I headed off to bed at 2:00am AEST but Perimmon Pomelo had my back and stayed up all night play testing. After that huge effort I thought he deserved a good breakfast so I made him French toast and a strong black coffee in his favourite Mr Happy Mug. Now back to my shift, lots left to do. Good luck to everyone else out there, keep goin strong. Remember to sleep, eat healthy and drink plenty of water. Persimmon Pomelo would also like to say how happy he is to be part of such an amazing community, thanks guys and girls!

Play Testing

Thanks Persimmon Pomelo for all your help!
