Progress Day 1

This is going much smoother for me this time around. I’ve decided on creating a monster destruction game with a twist to tie it into the shapeshift theme.

Tasks completed:

  • Game design fleshed out
  • Art assets for player avatar
  • Game screens
    • Preload
    • Menu
    • Game
    • Credits
    • Game over
  • Gameplay mechanic code in a working state
  • Player positioning and movement
  • Tilemap initialization

Todo:

  • Music
  • SFX
  • NPC sprites
  • Floating numbers
  • New tilemap
  • Screenshake
  • Particle effects
  • A real name

I’m using placeholder tiles until I work on the rest of the art tomorrow.

I’m in, I’m a bit rusty with javascript development but I will use this week as a refresher. My favourite part of Ludum Dare is the incredible productivity that comes with the strict deadline.

  • Engine: Phaser
  • Language: JavaScript
  • IDE: VIM
  • Platform: Web
  • Music: An obscure Flash app I used for my last game or time to try Garage Band
  • SFX: sfxr
  • Graphics: Sketch & GIMP & Tiled
  • Dev Platform: Windows & OSX

Today was a big day, completed most of the mechanics, multiplayer and a large portion of the art.

Cthulus are Beneath the Surface! Check it out here

Here are  some screenshots from earlier in the day when I wasn’t sure the direction to take the game:

Tomorrow will be music(maybe), more sfx, levels/stages and polish.

Hey fellow developers, this is my first time entering such a competition. I will be using HTML5’s Canvas  element with JavaScript to develop my game idea.
