Post-Mortem – Did I Make It?

Did I make it? Well technically no. I missed the submission by 4 minutes cause I was fixing stuff and the build took longer than I had predicted. I was kinda bummed out, but then tried playing the build and a lot was bugged. So I also didn’t make it on another level.

Some things that went wrong: I focused a bit much on art and background stuff than I did making enemies and the wave spawning system. This on top of the fact that the second day I didn’t get much done.

But, Im high-spirited. What I did make is too my liking. I just need to add some more and fix things. So I’m going to do a post-jam update. If you’d like to see when that happens, follow me on twitter!

Here is a little clip of my game so far. Basically the idea is that Stonehenge is a huge planetary weapon in ancient times, and the Great Pyramids are a control hub to pilot the planet. Aliens are attacking the ancient civilizations, and you must control the planet to defend it.

  • Basic Enemy AI
  • Some art features (clouds, stars, earth and moon sprites)
  • Shooting + Different Shooting Modes

To-Do

  • More Enemies (bosses, support enemies, different types of attacks)
  • More Art
  • Story Cutscene at the beginning
  • Sound Effects/Music (Gonna try using FamiTracker)
  • Increasing Difficulty per round
  • Store per round where you can spend points to get upgrades

Flower Fight – First Ludum Dare Game

I had a lot of fun participating in this event and I learned a lot. My friend and I decided to make a fighting game based on both themes. You play as a plant fighting another plant. There was going to be a narrative that the boss (the sun) would give the winner the nutrients needed to grow. The game is local multiplayer and each player gets two buttons for light attack and heavy attack. Then there are combos!

Originally, I had planned to have 3 characters which each character having 3-4 combos, but it didn’t work out that way. I have the framework for it though, and I may work on this as a side project.

I’m excited for future events and I learned to make more use out of my time.

First Game Jam

Hey all, Ill be participating this weekend in the game jam! This is my first time and I’m pretty excited! I’ll be loosely immersed as I do have work and hosting an unrelated LAN party, but I hope that I can make something that is functional. Ill be using Unity5 (js). I will be using PhotoShop for graphics. Glad to be involved!
