Save the Spoon Post Mortem

Aaaand another Ludum Dare is gone.

This time we didn’t have much time to work on the LD, but we’re satisfied anyway with our final result.

We are always learning something new, we improved our skills and we had a good time. These are the most important things about LD for us.


What went good:

A solid game mechanics.

Very nice graphics.

We stick to the theme (woohoooo).


What went bad:

Maybe the game is too easy and we need to add more challenging content.

A problem with the behaviour of the turrets took away lot of time.

Because of the lack of time we decided to cut social relationship on the blog and we didn’t write any update. (We are so sorry about this! please forgive us!)

Finally we have submitted our game 😀

We are very happy of the final version of the game, maybe one of the most satisfactory LD we ever done.

Hope you also enjoy our entry :)

Now is time to get some rest, we’re soooo sleeepy.

Good morning everyone, after a good night of sleep we are back working on the game.

The game mechanics are done, I’m now working on the dialog system for the story, while Chiara is finishing up the graphics.

If I have a well polished first level, I’ll start working on the second one before tonight.

Maybe we drifted away a bit from the theme, but the main character of our game is a real BADASS.

It’s almost time!!

I will develop the game mechanics and my beautiful fiancèe, Chiara, will work on the graphics.

For the music I think we will push random buttons in an “audio-tool-yet-to-be-decided” and see what we get.

Finally submitted our game!

This was our first LD together 😀

I worked on the sound and the mechanics of the game while _DK_ (a.k.a. Chiara) did all the graphics.

I’m very happy with the final result.

Here’s what I’m working at the moment :)

(you only get one life)

I’m building a platform game where you have to rush to the end. The game resets everytime you die, so no errors allowed.

Things are still rough, placeholders everwhere, I’m going to work on the graphic later on :)

I joined the competition after 3-4 hours from the start, I was in a hurry so I wrote a very minimal “I’m in” post.

Now that I have more time and I’m more relaxed let me write something about the tools used in my entry.

Development: Construct 2 – free edition.

I tried out Construct 2 for the first time for the LD because I wanted to do something in HTML 5 and wanted to try something new.

I found it very easy to use and very powerful, although the free editions has some limitations.

I didn’t write on the blog during the making of the game and I feel a bit guilty about it.

So now that I’m near to the end I’ll try to write down something.

I wanted to do something cooperative, so I decided to make a game where two people have to stick side by side to reach the end of the game.

I mean side by side, literally… When you see the controls you will understand.

On the second day I wanted to make it single player too, it works well, but in my opinion 2 player is way more fun!

I still don’t really know what to make, but I’m just doing this for fun :)
