Posted by

I am doing this ludum dare from scratch with OpenGL and C++.

So far I have made a square…….. Still no ideas for one room..

Also, I am very, very tired, soย I need to make a cup of coffee. Anyway here is the square:

Not sure if this GIF is gonna animate or not :(

I AM IN

Posted by
Sunday, November 27th, 2016 1:50 pm

I wanted to wait for the new site to be up before this post.

However… I am too impatient.

I am very excited for this one. Hopefully, I will be making a simple 3D game, with some sort of model loader. As always
I will be making the engine during the 48 hours.

What I will be using:

Code:

  • Typescript
  • HTML5
  • WebGL
  • The WebGL Reference card, and possibly other tutorials
  • Visual Studio Code
  • WampServer – (to host a local server during development)

Graphics:

  • Photoshop
  • Autodesk Maya

Sound:

  • SFXR
  • FamiTracker
  • Possibly the sound editor in Pico-8 (which you should get…. Right now!)

I am very excited for this one. Partly because I have never made a full web game before.

However, I am fairly confident as I have gotten my head around typescript for the most part, and have been using OpenGL for a long
time and WebGL is not that different.

I actually thought the Ludum Dare was in 3 weeks, but apparently it is just under 2. So thats great!! ๐Ÿ˜€

Thanks for being an awesome community, and a super big thanks to our god Mike.

-Ned Boulter

EDIT:

After spending the whole of this Saturday battling with typescript and modules, and confusion.

I have decided to do the Ludum Dare in C++, this is slightly easier, as I am more familiar with c++.

However it will definitely still be a challenge!

I will be using OpenGL, Glad, LoadPNG, OpenAL soft

Little bit worried about time!!

I added strafe jumping:ย https://gyazo.com/0cd88c33ee6f60e04559e552188466fc

Not really sure why. Think the game will probably have some sort of base in parkour.

Should probably hurry, but I am wasting quite a bit of time messing with the strafe jump,

(its really fun, because you gain so much speed).

Anyway, good luck everyone ๐Ÿ˜€

Super Excited.

Lets Go!!

Using Java

Wanted to append my I’m In post.

I will be using Java, as opposed to c++, because otherwise I will actually go insane.

Can’t wait.

I’m in

Posted by
Thursday, August 4th, 2016 1:38 am

No complications this time ๐Ÿ˜€

although, obviously I am in, as I have competed in every LD since LD 28, still trying to get top 100 :(

Speaking of which, this LD isn’t being rated, which doesn’t really make much difference, as all I really want to do is finishย a game.

I will be using C++, with GLFW, OpenGL, GLAD, and LodePNG. I will not be using any base code, (yea! Not even a maths lib).

Also, photoshop, sfxr and famitracker (if I get round to music, since, I never have)

Since it is not being rated, this is the perfect one to challenge myself D: So I am starting from the Ultimate scratch. (not quite true, I almost went with vulkan :o)

Anyway, I CANNOT wait. I am so excited, the Ludum Dare is my favorite thing in the whole world.

Looking for friendly indie team 15 – 18yrs

Posted by
Tuesday, July 19th, 2016 1:36 pm

Hi,

I am Ned Boulter, and I wish to put together a small indie team (consisting of no more than three people), to make a game, over these summer holidays.

Criteria:

Artist:

  • You must be good at pixel, and HD art. (HD art matters less, I love pixellated games)
  • 3D Modelling experience is good
  • good at level design – (Be willing to learn, it is fine if you don’t have any actual experience)
  • You must have few commitments during the Summer Holiday.

Musician – be able to make good music, I am very inexperienced in this area.

I have just finished my GCSE’s and will be going on to college after the summer holidays, so if you decide you join, you will be working, up until the end of the summer holiday.

After the summer holiday, we will likely remain friends, however, I cannot make any commitments after that point.

The most important criteria is that you are friendly, and it is important that we do not put pressure on each other, as it is mainly for fun. Please understand, that we may not finish a game, and that would be fine. If we do complete a game, it is even less likely we will try to release it. This would just be for the fun of seeing a game develop :D.

If you decide you don’t like the game half-way through development, we will discuss scrapping it, and starting again. If you decide you want to leave the team, that is fine, however it will probably ruin our chances of finishing a game.

I hope this is a good place to post this, it is my dream to work in a very small indie team, and thought, well… It’s worth a try, why not do it now :D.

If you are interested just drop your Skype name in the comments, and we will talk and discuss your work. After I decide I want to work with you, I will not “fire” you or anything childish like that, we will be working as friends. You must have a working microphone, be willing to speak on Skype, and you must speak good English. If you don’t wish to share your Skype name, add me, my name is “nednednednedned1” (I made it a long time ago :/)

Lastly, Iย will be programming the game in C++, with OpenGL, or Java with OpenGL, we will discuss which one. I am more in need of an artist than a musician (since there is no point in hiring a musician, with no artist, since we won’t have a game). However, I do think music is extremely important in games (Imagine DOOM without the music :o).

If this is the wrong place to post this message, also tell me in the comments, and I will remove the post.

Thanks ๐Ÿ˜€

Rating Games

Posted by

I sorta missed the “Golden Time” for rating games.

I wanna see what more people think, so I am posting a link.
I am still rating games also!!
If anyone wants to make a youtube LP of my game. I would love you forever!!

Day 1 Over. Can’t wait for tomorrow :D

This is today’s work. I have a level system. Rendering system. Full collisions, and an Entity and GameObject system.

Looking forward to tomorrow, as I get to add the actual gameplay ๐Ÿ˜€

Thanks for being an awesome community!!

Lycanthropy

Posted by
Saturday, April 16th, 2016 6:22 am

As always my game has a very clichรฉd name.

It means werewolf (I think). Anyway, it is a game where there are civilians, some of which are

werewolves, and you have to shoot werewolves without shooting civilians.

Sometimes, you will see civilians acting strangely, and this means that they are probably a werewolf and you should shoot them.

However, sometimes a civilian will be acting strangely, just because of bad coding, then you will shoot him, and you will lose.

Anyway, that is the general idea.

Here is a screenie of the start menu (it is in a Wolf3D Dungeoncrawler retro type art style, for some reason):

I made a post quite a while ago, where I said that I would not be competing due to GCSE’s

However… I have changed my mind, because I have competed in every Ludum Dare since I started
and it seems like a massive shame to break that streak.

However, I will not be able to go to bed late, and I will still be doing 3 hours of revision each day,
as well as the Ludum Dare.

Tools:

Java: Programming Language
Eclipse: IDE,
Photoshop: for bad pixel art
LWJGL and JOML: for confusing 3D stuff? Not sure about this one.

There is a very high chance that I won’t use OpenGL and just use a DataBufferInt data array as a color buffer, and make a raycaster.

I can’t wait, it is going to be awesome!!

Stay Awesome!

English Essay!!

Posted by
Sunday, February 7th, 2016 10:48 am

Hey I have to write a script for my english language speech.

In the speech I have to talk about what I am most interested in, I am most interested in the Ludum Dare.

Therefore I am gonna do the speech on the Ludum Dare.

Can some of you guys do me a massive favour by giving me ideas on what to write about.

Thanks In advance ๐Ÿ˜€

Probably going to miss the next Ludum Dare.

The next ludum dare is the week before my GCSEs start. So I will not be doing the upcoming Ludum Dare.

However I will almost certainly be doing the one after the next :( (seems like such a long time).

I am wondering whether I should do a mini ludum dare to make up for it. However I don’t know how
much feedback you get for a mini ludum dare game??

Thanks for being the best community ever ๐Ÿ˜€

Yey, Spinning models + text rendering!!!

Posted by
Saturday, December 12th, 2015 6:48 am

This is what I have done so far. I am using modern OpenGL which takes a long time. From here on out, it should be pretty fast though ๐Ÿ˜€

Compared to other people’s progress reports I seem quite behind. However, I still think I will finish, if not the whole game, I will make it simplified. I have quite a good idea :D.

I should speed up because I just had a very strong coffee as well!!

Good luck everyone!!!!

I’m In (A little early, but…)

Tuesday, November 17th, 2015 10:33 am

I’m In ๐Ÿ˜€

I am in, I know it is really early to do this, but I am going to kick off the I’m in posts now.

I am doing this so early because I am in a Ludum Dare mood, and don’t want to revise for my imminent exams

I will be using the following tools:

  • IntelliJ: as a Java IDE
  • Java: as a programming language
  • OpenGL: as a rendering API.
  • LWJGL 3: as an OpenGL wrapper.
  • Photoshop: as an Image manipulation program ๐Ÿ˜€
  • SFXR: sound
  • Fami Tracker (if I have time to make music): as a chiptune creator.
  • Open Broadcaster Software (maybe don’t count on it): to stream
  • Chronolapse (probably not): for a timlapse

Well good luck everyone, I am so excited. Only 3 weeks left now ๐Ÿ˜€

Thanks,

Ned

Whew! 3D Java Perspective. Ascent from Hades!!

Posted by
Friday, August 21st, 2015 11:58 pm

Hades hell, whatever!!

It is a game where you are an evil flesh eating monster (obviously) basically a zombie. I want a kinda dungeon crawler style (like DM 2).

the aim of the game is to escape from living hell (the dungeon). Into the world of light and flesh that you have heard rumors about.

So yes…. The aim of the game is to start a zombie apocalypse ๐Ÿ˜€

I don’t really care about time. Thinking about time just makes me stressed (and breeds mistakes)

Good Luck everyone!!!!
