IceEntity (haxeflixel entity-framework)

Since last ludum dare, I’ve been working on what was my basecode, expanding it, and making it generally more useful. Some cool features it now supports are:

-Parsing in entities and components from XML

IceEntity Demo

-Live-Scripting of game-logic during play

Live-Scripting Demo

Note that this is a work in progress, it may be buggy, and often some things stop working correctly, which is exactly why I would love more people to check it out, and give me some feedback, be it bug reports, feature requests, or just your general thoughts, thanks:)

You can find IceEntity here: https://github.com/NicoM1/IceEntity

If anyone wishes to contribute, I would love that as well, just submit a pull request, or tweet me @nico_m__

Thanks for reading, make cool games;)

Entity Management

So I’ve been making small changes and additions to what was my Ludum Dare basecode, and its getting to the point where I think it might actually be useful for other people. This begs the question: What do people actually need/want in an entity/component management system? Anything you can think of, please post in the comments, or tweet to me @nico_m__

Note that my system is for HaxeFlixel, and is already available on github, the point of this post is just as a general question though, whether you use flixel or not, what would you want/need in an entity/component management system?

Here’s the timplapse for my game Under Our Feet

I may upload a higher quality one later, but my internet is on in and out today (part of the reason I submitted early)

The Winning Stretch

I’m getting pretty close:), I wasn’t sure I’d be able to finish it, but after deciding to just make it a one-level, simple game, its been going great:). I’ve also tracked down some horrible bugs in my basecode, and will be fixing them after the compo. Its as far from original as it gets, but it’s (IMHO) starting to be actually fun to play:), here’s a recent screenshot:

Well this is my first ludum dare, and its going well, but relatively slowly. The first night (friday) I started work on a top-down alien planet exploration and cataloging game…It went nowhere fast. This morning, I decided to scrap everything and start fresh. I had no ideas (still don’t) so I went as bland as possible and started work on an underground platformer. Its going pretty well, although I have a hard time keeping motivated. I’ve also realized that I’m not very big on level design…. Heres some gifs, and for more progress you can follow me on twitter (https://twitter.com/nico_m__):

Planning tools/techniques

So this is going to be my first ld, and I’m fairly nervous, because I always have a really hard time coming up with ideas. I was wondering if anyone knows of any good tools(mind mappers, etc.) or specific techniques, for getting/planning out ideas,

Timelapse Delay

I’m looking into timelapsing my attempt at ludum dare, and I’ve found this: https://code.google.com/p/chronolapse/ but I was wondering what most people use as the delay between frames when they timelapse, something like 10 seconds?

GameObject and component management

here is the basecode I will be using for LD48, you can pretty much do whatever you want with it, if anyone actually uses it (or even looks through it), I’d love to hear about it:). You can get in touch with me on twitter if you have any questions, hope everyone has fun:)….bye

-edit: forgot to mention that this runs on top of haxeflixel

I’m (maybe In

So I’ve never joined before, but I’ve been following ludum dare for a while, and I think I might be ready to actually make something this time. I’m not sure if I’ll be busy during the compo so I can’t confirm I’ll be in, but I’d really like to…

If I do join, this is likely what I will be using:

Language: haXe

Framework: haxeflixel + some component and gameobject management code originally intended for my own engine (I’ll post it before the compo)

(I wish I could be using my own engine, but I’ve run into serious performance troubles, and collision glitches, hopefully someday I’ll be able to come back to it and fix it up, but I’m not ready for that yet)

Editor: flashdevelop

Graphics: Gimp or Aseprite

Sound: probably bfxr

Hey, so I’m new here, and thinking of joining the next ludum dare (ive been playing the games and reading posts for a while now, without an account), and I was just wondering why there are so many strange spam posts, and if there has been anything attempted to fix it (all the stuff that makes no sense about north-face jackets and such), thanks, and i don’t mean to just barge in and say the site isn’t good, I love reading peoples devlogs and tips, i just wondered,
