Anyway, good luck everyone keep up the good work.

Hi all,

This is my “I’m in” post.

I’ve been learning haxe over the last few days, so i’m hoping to use haxepunk for the competition this time around. If I don’t get called into work over the weekend this time, I might actually get to submit something again ( :  I seriously cannot wait for the theme release its going to be so cool.

I’m using Haxe with Haxepunk.

I’m going to use the gimp and either inkscape or graphics gale for game art.

music/ambient sounds are going to be coming from the internet

SFXR for the cool sound effects also probably the internet.

The best of luck to everyone. Playing all the games is going to be great.

Thanks -NGangst

Inkscape Library and Extension

Posted by

Hi all,  in the run-up to LD, I decided I would share something else with you all.

Today I made an extension and library for interfacing between Inkscape and C++,

so now you can use inkscape as a level editor without having to face the nightmare of parsing the svg.

feel free to make any changes or modifications you like,  I’m really hoping someone uses it and makes something truly amazing with it.

It has some minor bugs and I didn’t get time to add support for groups and layers -yet but if you need this it would be really easy to add

example code and readme are included in the zip file.

to install the extension just drop both the inx and the py into the

folder, and you should have a new option on the save as dialogue next time you run inkscape.

Thanks again all,  have fun and play nice

Kindest regards -Anthony

Unfortunately Missed the last LD, and got dragged away kicking and screaming by a friend time before that, but this time, I’m in.

Sound : sfxr

Art: Inkscape/Gimp

Librarys/SDK’s: either HGE or SFML depending on what happens also mabee TinyXML.

Im also considering using the OPAL library for HGE.

Time before last I only ended up with one day so I made a few libraries:

No Tile Editor Library

Ogmo Tile Editor Import Library

And my zip file archive library:

AAL Ants Archive Library

Feel free to use these libraries where ever or how ever you find them useful, Id appreciate you crediting me, but don’t feel that you have to,

although please do respect the base licences of the dependencies.

Good luck everyone.

Thanks And Kindest regards -Anthony

Grrr, Id be a better developer if I had less friends

Well well done to everyone who participated this LD, I started, and made some great progress but then a friend turned up and wouldnt leave lol. Oh well theres allways next time I suppose.

And instead of going for the game I decided to use my time to make something that can help someone with their own prejcts,

I made a library for loading files from No-Tile Editor, I was going to use it for my project but in the end I only had  a few hours, of devtime.

I have a download link on my website:

feel free to use as you see best, good luck to everyone still working.

Im really looking forward to seeeing what people do with this theme.

thanks -Ant

Problem Fixed I think Angry Stan

Posted by

Hi Everyone, I have just rebuilt angry stan on a 32 bit os with another distribution of allegro,

it seems to have solved the problems, but I cannot be sure,  I am sorry about the problems, please feel free to grab the new version,  as it should at least run on more peoples machine now.

again a nice screeny for you all

oh and

Sparky says …

I’m trying to play, but Stan falls through the island as if it’s not solid over and over at the beginning of the game. Is this a bug?

-Yes it is a massive bug and thanks for letting me know, something wrong with allegro, I think the new build has resolved this issue, I would appreciate it if you could redownload and try it again.

64-bit 32-bit argh

Hi everyone, I have just discovered that the game build I submitted, only seems to work on a 64 bit pc.

Im working to try to get a 32 bit compatible version sorted, but atm unless you are on xp 64 there probably isnt any sence in trying to download it.

Has anyone else had an issue like this in the past?  if anyone has any suggestions They would be greatly appreciated,

Finally Finished

Well I have reached a point where I know that I will do more damage than good if I add anything else.

I have added all of the features I wanted and have packaged up all of the media(despite it turning into a massive pain)

Overall I was really pleased with Allegro, I will definitely use it in the future, allthough one bug that i couldnt seem to iron out, was that the level would simply not be there sometimes, no idea how to fix it, so the submission will have it in.

Stan, lost and angry alone in the middle of the sea with only his gold and the rising tide for company

Stan, lost and angry alone in the middle of the sea with only his gold and the rising tide for company

The water is much better now.

I also added a speech bubble, which introduces the game quite nicely, as well as start and ending screens:

Stan Casually Explains the severity of the current situation

I  improved the day->night transition, still not perfect, the stars stay too long, but the blend is nice

also changed the display to use a better bigger and bolder font, and moved them out of the centre of the screen.

Finished adding sounds.

Thanks And good luck to everyone who hasnt finished yet, good work to everyone who has.

Now to get some beer, and play some LD 17 games ( :

Sleep Is For The Weak!!!

Well Ive been working pretty much solid since the theme was announced, and am finally at the stage where I have an emergancy build that I can submit if everything else goes horribly wrong:

Angry Stan And The Island Of Doom

Angry Stan And The Island Of Doom

introducing “Angry Stan And The Island Of Doom”,

The basic Goal of “ASATIOD” is to collect all of the gold coins from the island before the tide gradually comes in and drowns you, if you dont get to the coins before the tide washes them away, you have had it.

It still needs a lot of tweaking and tidying up, also the collision responce is acting really weird and making it look like Stan has Parkinsons (mabee thats why he’s angry?) anyway Im going to take it off my bug list and add it to my feature list because I think its kind of cool.

Hoping to either use allegro’s font handling to create some better text, or use sprites.

Also still need to add a menu and congradulation screen.

Finally I Dont have anything else to do

Hi Everyone,  I have been meaning to participate for ages,  but up until now something has allways come up.

luckily this year, my degree is finished,

and I took the precaution of arranging my family’s dissapearance and falling out with all of my freinds.

( ;

I am hoping to use this weekend to learn Allegro. It seems really well suited to the task, but learning a new library with such a short deadline will probably turn out to be a mistake, only one way to find out I guess.

I am going to use:

Ogmo Editor if something warrents tiles

perhaps Tile Studio

LMMS for sound if I get time

The Gimp, InkScape and GraphicsGale for “artwork”

I wish everyone the best of luck and am really looking forward to checking out the entries.

Roll on LD17

thanks -NGangst
