PSA: If you see the “Retry for a Live Version” button, click it

RetryButton

If you see this button, just click it. The site shouldn’t actually be down, but sometimes CloudFlare thinks otherwise. I’m not sure why this happens. So far it’s the only real problem I’ve run in to since moving the server.

Warmup Weekend for Ludum Dare 35

Posted by (twitter: @ludumdare)
Friday, April 8th, 2016 3:54 pm

Can’t wait for Ludum Dare? Are you ready though? No? Then between now and the start, you’re encouraged to test your tools. We call it Warmup Weekend (but we don’t mind when you submit, be it today or next week). Make some art, import it, and draw it on screen. Make some sounds, import them, and play them on cue. If you’re using a new development tool, figure out the development cycle. Learn how to make a release too!

Bullet point summary:

  • No rules or limits. This is practice.
  • Learn your development tools! Write some code, run it.
  • Make some art, get it on screen, make it move.
  • Print some text to the screen. Print some text to a log (if applicable).
  • Make some sound, get it in game, make it play.
  • If you’re motivated enough, make your experiments in to a game!
  • Make something that should take “hours”, not 2 days.
  • Then package it up, put it online.
  • No time or day limit. But if you have no other plans this weekend, why not?

If you like what you’ve done, feel free to share it.

Think you have the best Theme idea for Ludum Dare? Tell us what it is.

If you’re new to the ‘New Theme Selection’ process, every user can suggest a maximum of 3 Theme ideas. This goes on for nearly 3 weeks. After that, we sort through the mega-list of themes in something called the Theme Slaughter. Finally, the weekend before Ludum Dare, we kick-off several rounds of Theme Voting, before the Final Round.

The Theme for Ludum Dare 35 will be announced at the start of the event. When is that? Go to the theme website, and it should tell you at the top of the page. Otherwise, check the countdown clock at the top of this page.

Theme Voting has begun! Tune in every day this week for a new round of themes. *

[ ROUND 1 | ROUND 2 | ROUND 3 ]

[ ROUND 4 | FINAL ROUND ]

* Links above in Bold are still open. If you haven’t cast a vote yet, click the link to do it. End times for each round vary, and many cross over.

* If you get an error message about needing to log in to vote, and you are already logged in, then try refreshing your browser (CTRL+F5 in Firefox/IE), or in Chrome F12 then Right Click on Refresh and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”).

Special thanks to sorceress for preparing the theme list.

Ludum Dare 33 Theme Slaughter!

Posted by (twitter: @ludumdare)
Friday, August 7th, 2015 3:34 pm

Over the past 3 weeks you suggested over 4000 themes! Wow! That’s a few too many, so let’s SLAUGHTER some!

This is our hot-or-not for Ludum Dare themes. Click the graphic above, and keep clicking until you can click no more! Every click helps, so click more and click often! Much appreciated!

As always, thanks again to sorceress for helping clean up the list.

REMEMBER: This is just Phase 1 of the theme vote. Next week, the top 80 themes from the slaughter will go head-to-head in 5 rounds of voting (Round 5 is best of 1-4). The winning theme will be announced at the start.

NEW: Monday morning, we’ve culled the lowest ~1000 rated themes. Offensive themes should be gone now.

NEW: Wednesday night, we’ve culled another ~1500 rated themes. That leaves just over 1300. Theme Voting week uses the top 80 unique themes from the slaughter.
