A post jam version worth it!

This time I can say this game’s post jam version was actually worth the time spent on! Actually, it’s kind of what I had planned for the jam but didn’t have enough to make it. It’s still far from what I plan to do, but worth the playing time I suppose.

I liked the result and I’m thinking of making a full little game of out this, before I continue another ambitious project, who knows.

You can play Super Bad Room here.

Not quite as expected :(

Well, everything went wrong at the last minute. A serious bug broke the whole game and I had to remove the last part of it. Now it has no ending, a few weird bugs, no polish… I was too ambitious with this little project. So many ideas but not enough time. I spent too much time on the characters and its moves while the focus should’ve been the room!

The amount of art work that went into it… I just can’t thank my art partner enough! And overall, the gameplay and design (even if short) feels right. It probably deserves a good post-jam version.

Oh boy this is a good theme! Can’t wait to get my idea out of the paper :)

And my team mate will probably use some music maker, photoshop or something.

Good luck to all!

Jam again here!

Hi guys! This time I’ll enter the Jam as a collaborative member with my coding experience. Maybe some help on sound. But the game idea, design and art will be on my partner, this should be interesting, not have to worry about everything for once!

We’ll use Audacity, Photoshop, sfrx and blitzmax for now.

Good luck to all!

Here’s my entry and its post-compo version (My best LD entry by far, a puzzle platformer)!

I added more levels (people were requesting, very motivating :) ), a proper ending, different music and other little tweaks.

I’m glad I joined this LD. I actually almost gave up because I knew I’d only have about 24 hours of free time during the jam period. I guess having previous LD experiences makes you quicker!! Hope you enjoy it!

Ummmm… I wonder if I can buy ammo for this gun!

Ok that’s an interesting theme! I think I have some crazy ideas for it.

I’ll be using BlitzMax, Audacity, Sfxr and Photoshop for now.

Now back to thinking!

Less gfx, more fun!

This is my third entry on LD Jam and it’s definitely my best one so far :) Now that I’m finally finished improving the post compo version it’s about time I made a little post mortem!

Fighter's Last Hope

Fighter’s Last Hope

What went right:

Contrary to my previous entries, I didn’t care about graphics and spent more time on gameplay. As a matter of fact, I was so careless about the pixels I ended up releasing some not-so-final-art I could’ve fixed in no time.

As a result I think the gameplay and fun factor was pretty good! It was also a good idea to have only one level and make it good.

What went wrong:

There was no time to make music (even though I probably would’ve sucked at it) and my wife who usually takes care of that part was busy and couldn’t help.

The intro/menu screen was made in a rush on and it looked God awful!

I think it all went pretty well considering the hours I put into it. I feel I’ve learned from the previous entries and will hopefully get better at the next one :) It’s also the first I time did a significant post compo version of the game (still working on it)!

All right! I like this theme, it’s open to all kinds of ideas I guess. Let me get to work now! I’m going for the jam.

Main tools:

sfxr or something

Good luck to all!

Hi guys! Second LD attempt here. I’ll participate on the jam again and hopefully not make the same mistakes.

My main my tools are BlitzMax (my base code), PhotoShop and sfx. And some tool I can’t remember the name my wife’s gonna use to make music. Good luck to all!

TinyBot – post mortem

So many ideas, so little time! I messed up in some decisions, but don’t get me wrong. Being the first time I ever got into game development competition with little time to make something, I thought the end result was pretty good.

What went wrong: The first thing that comes to mind is how I unnecessarily made big graphics. That alone took me many hours where I could’ve spent on more levels, polish, features and bug fixing. Just look at all the great games with simple graphics! Sure higher resolution graphics are better, but only when you have enough time or a talented artist to make it fast. Also, having to draw with a crappy wacom bamboo tablet didn’t help! (NO! you CAN’T make straight lines with it) Totally unexpected handmade bugs/glitches by demons from the deepest hell pits attacked my code. It ripped out at least a couple of levels from the game. That’s my fault though, thinking my engine was great due to the ‘wonderful’ tests I made. The lack of tutorial hindered the gameplay experience for some players! I assumed it being a simple 2d platformer players would easily get the controls so I didn’t give it any priority. But certain complaints popped up and I’m sure it was because they didn’t know they could shoot upwards.

What went right: Pretty much everything else went as planned. No issues with the tools used. And having my girlfriend support me during the weekend was superb! Not only did she make the music and sfx without any previous experience(drum circle, sfxr, audacity) she also saved me time by providing and preparing all the food, making me only stop strictly for eating. Made me feel like a king! I have the best girlfriend in the world 😀

I’ve played quite a few games so far and wow! It’s amazing what people do with just a couple of days! Now back to playing and voting! That’s about it. It was fun and quite a experience. I hope to enter more competitions in the future!

TinyBot is finished!

It’s finally done! Glitches and bugs kept poping up at the last hours, so I had to sacrifice many game features and extra levels that I wanted to fit in :(

Overall it’s been a great experience participating on the jam! Had it not been for my girlfriend making the music and sound effects, it sure would’ve comprimised the result.  Check out the game and play it! Download TinyBot here

Hi guys!

It’s my first LudumDare attempt. Hope I can make something out of it! I’ll probably jam if I finish at all!

I’ll most likely use BlitzMax(with my base code), Photoshop, sfxr and audacity. Good luck to all!
