Well I am quite stoked with my rating! Thanks for playing guys 😀
Congrats to JamesMowery with a highscore of 681, well done!

Since my release to Android, I have managed to accumulate over 1,700 downloads, with a 4.93 star rating out of 98 ratings. I’m amazed at that. Hopefully, I will release it to Apple in the future. Might be able to talk my friends into letting me use their Mac. (Silly Apple)

As for 34 Ludum Dare vs Previous, I seem to have increased my average again. Yay! Kinda set an expectation now. Oh, and I reach my goal that I set at the start, “…hopefully try and Overall in the top 100…”. Achieved a rating of #31!

So after a little more time and effort, and motivation from the awesome feedback, I have finally uploaded spin-circle HD to the Google Play Store.

Really neat idea for moving around your environment.

Suits the two controls theme nicely, and a good fun game.

Belly Smash – Overall
There wasn’t really a area that stood out dramatically. Just a well developed game for 72hrs.

There are some pretty awesome games out there, good job guys! Here are a few of my favourite so far.

2 button metroidvania – Theme
Awesome use of two-controls theme. Nice art too. And 8hrs?!

Pete and the Beanstalk – Innovation
Nice idea, and executed very good.

Longbeard – Graphics
Really liked the art style in this game.

I shall post others I like further in the future.

In the meantime, if you wanted to check out my game, that would be great too.

Here we are, my little write up. First things first. Here is a .gif of my game if you haven’t seen it yet. And if you haven’t played it yet and want too, just click the image :)

Day 1

So spent the first few hours trying to think of an idea. I had a couple come to mind, but turned out I couldn’t draw a shark. (Not like the ones in Shark Wars entry). So I re-thought my ideas, and this is what I came up with.
The rest of the day mainly consisted of 1 getting main code done, 2 graphics for feel.
Sometimes it is hard to get an idea and feel without graphics. At the start of development, it seemed quite bland so particle effects were added for appeal and interest.

At the end, after finishing the main code and happy at when it was a good finishing point, I created a to do list to help me remember what I was in needed of doing.

Day 2

With my handy to do list, I got right onto the music. At first, I went with a more upbeat feel, but do me the game didn’t lend itself to it at first. I decided to do something different with sound, than I have done before, after watching an awesome YouTuber’s video on adaptive soundtracks. So now, it starts off nice and slow, and as you progress the music intensify (to a degree) with the difficulty of the game.
With base code, feel graphics and sound out of the way, I spent the rest of the day optimizing, balancing, smoothing transitions, updating graphics and normalizing sound.

Now, release onto Windows, web (automatic WebGl), and Android (via Google Play) with highscores.
Future, improve gameplay, release a HD version for Android.

Once again, Ludum Dare was a great experience. You learn more, improve skills, touch up in areas and well have fun! If you are programming and can’t seem to finish a project, DO LUDUM DARE! Trust me, it helps.
Hopefully, all going well, I’ll be joining Ludum Dare 35 for another challenge.

Happy with the progress made today. Practically finished. Maybe add a few things, do some touch ups. Perhaps do some porting and should be good to go!

Progress being made.
Improved the gameplay, so it is hard but easy to score. Added a powerup. Got decent music that’s acts with gameplay. Got most graphics done.
Think I might add a tutorial, because sometimes simplicity is hard for people to get. Got to get a name for this game too.

Here’s another gif, a bit more to actual speed, however still not quite. No too different look wise, more so mechanics.

Audio is Key

Audio really helps set the mood for your game. Mostly finished implementing the music and audio to my game. There are so many different things you can do with it.

If you would like sound ideas to help improve your audio, I found this video very helpful. Take a break from coding/drawing or what not, have something to eat and watch this.

Nap Time

It’s getting  early, might be time for a nap.
Here is an update of the progress now. You can actually get a score! Edited game difficulty setting, multiplier, added some pretty particles, menu, restart. Gif appears slower than game.

Tomorrow, music, graphic edits, different game mechanics etc.

After a couple of different attempts and ideas, I decided to go with a more simplistic approach. This way I wouldn’t run out of time and would be able to develop more into the game play and features.
Thinking that is all well and good, now I seem to be “testing” too much! And by “testing” I mean enjoying my game. I don’t even have a functional score yet, lol.

Time for a little break to get my head into gear, and crack on with my game.

So haven’t said I’m in, but I’m in!

Once again my tools will be:
– Gamer Maker Studio
– Photoshop
– Fl Studio
– Other programs that may be required will be used. (Like audacity, bfxr, and such)

3rd Time in, hoping for a good one. Since the last Ludum Dare I was able to release a game on Google Play! So glad I have been doing these Ludum Dare’s, and glad they are there, as the help me develop my ability and understanding. Not to mention the motivation and drive that says, “Hey, you can actually finish a game. Well done.”

Ludum Dare 32 highest rating was Mood. Coming #158 with a rating of 3.52.
Ludum Dare 33 highest rating was Theme. Coming #5 with a rating of 4.41. (Quite stoked with that!)

The Cure and Me

Looking for a game to play this evening? Immerse yourself, by putting on your headphones, downloading and playing The Cure.

Something has happened to you! You need to find all 10 of the scientists before you turn into a monster! Don’t eat the villagers or you will become more like a monster. But eating sheep helps keep the monstrous nature at bay. Feel free to chat to the villagers, the might help brighten the mood.

My Experience

2nd time in, and how much fun! Really enjoyed programming this guy. I was surprised how much more progress I have made in how I would problem solve my code and write different algorithms. I feel that my art has also improved since the last four months with my Ludum Dare 32 entry. But that’s just how I feel. Let me know your honest opinion, I am keen to make improvement.

Game Mechanics and stuff.

If I were to add more to this game I would like more scenery objects, perhaps more animals. I think also a secondary objective would make it more fun. I really like the mechanic were the you can’t control the monster. I feel it adds to the experience. It wasn’t planned out, but it turned out to be pretty good. I also like the text interaction between the NPCs. I haven’t done this before, but was happy with the outcome.

Overall, I am glad I did the Ludum Dare Compo again. It is helping me improve my developing skills, helping me see I can finish a game, all while having fun! Until Ludum Dare 34 fellow developers!
