element smash concept art

Have a look at the concept art for our entry, Element Smash! First thing we got done and we went on from there. It was going to be a rock paper scissors themed game but we decided to make it elemental instead. That’s why we have a magma golem and a guy with strange things on its back. Plant was a paper bag, at first.

Tama Battle Post Portem

Hey there, folks!

This Ludum Dare has been very meaningful to me, beginning with the fact that I started working as a freelance programmer to make other people’s games while trying to live, it was about time (after missing 3 Ludum Dares), for me to make a game of my own.

To be honest I started this journey because I wanted to experiment with Unity’s WebGL and the WebSockets implementation, which turned out not being as hard as I expected. In the middle of the weekend I began to work on Tama Battle which ended up being my entry for this edition.

Combining a bit of RPG, a bit of Multiplayer and a bit of RANDOMNESS I created this little game, that is already turning into something bigger. Yeah, because fuck it, I want to make this a brilliant and beautiful game, something people can enjoy everywhere (Mobile & Browser based), because that’s why I “signed” into being an independent game developer. Not to make someone else’s games.

And that’s why I’m happy to announce the following new features coming by the start of next year (start of January):

  • Android support (I might consider going to iOS too depending on how enjoyable it is on Android devices).
  • Unlockable Skills: Using experience points, you’ll be able to unlock skills from a skill tree divided in three essences (Fire, Water, Earth).
  • New Stat ‘INT’: Will determine the chances your pet’s got to execute any of the skills you’ve unlocked for him.
  • Fight Buffs: Let’s say you loose three fights in a row. You’ll have a chance of being blessed with a buff that will either lower incoming damage for the next fight, or heal for every hit you make, etc.
  • Daily Challenges: To put some incentive into keep on playing the game, there will be Challenges ala “Hearthstone” that will affect your fights. And if you complete them, will give you sweet sweet rewards (Either a ton of exp, some extra stat points, or something I’m keeping a secret!).
  • Gold Accounts: By supporting the development (it will be priced at 2,99$), you’ll receive a life-long experience boost (you’ll level up faster than normal accounts). This will also be on Android, and depending on how supportive you guys are, that could mean no Ads forever! 😀
  • Stat and experience gain balancing.
  • Resting will no longer be timed, and will be like a clicker. The faster you press the Rest button, the more you’ll heal your pet!
  • Bug fixing!

There will also be a website for the game ready sometime before this month ends (http://tama.devmidgard.com/), be sure to check it out!

And that’s it for the moment, you can go and enjoy some christmas season fights while there’s snow on the game!

Cheers,

Midgard.

Tama Battle Is Here!

So, after this weird full-of-working weekend I’ve sorta finished this project, at least to presentate it to you guys on Ludum Dare!

As Always, I started this edition with another idea, but ended up using the second one that came to my mind, because that’s how I work, I guess!

So this idea was making a mix between pokémon and tamagotchi, all in a multiplayer game where you send your Pet to battle against other player’s pets, see how they do, and make your pet grow based on the results!

We’re in, for the first time ever together

We’re pretty excited to be here together for the first time, for what we call “devCats” – as a little two-man team! And because cats!

I myself have participated in almost every LudumDare since 4 years ago, so I’m a bit more experienced with the pressure, I guess that will help to maintain the team hope!

We are going to use:

Engine: Unity.
Graphics: Photoshop & Blender (if we end up making something three-dimensional).
Music/Sfx: SunVox & SFXR.
Language: C#.

And this is where it’s going to happen, all in a small, hot office in Barcelona, Spain:

Ridiculous Arena: Where Mini-Cangaroos will make you fall in the lava

More progress in the final hours! I’m happy to say that all 15 weapons found on Ridiculous Arena (my game entry) are implemented! You saw the Lemon before, but what about a mini-cangaroo? It is pretty annoying, just like the weapons with similar behaviour, like the Crazy Goat and the Chicken!

Remember to search for Ridiculous Arena once the judgement begins!

Such nice progress

This is how you get strange and awesome weapons at the Ridiculous Arena! My game entry for this edition :)

A little glampse at “Ridiculous Arena´´

Hey there! Progress is going really nice for my entry, it’s going to be called “Ridiculous Arena”, and it’s also going to be something unique at some fact.

The game is mainly focused on a multiplayer free-for-all arena for a max of 6 players, at the start of any match there will appear a box in the center of your screen, once you click it, the box will reveal the weapon you’ll be using to annoy the others, and make ’em slide and fall into the arena traps!

Today I got the lobby system to work, and also I did work on some gameplay mechanics, the weapons are going to be really crazy, from a water gun that makes players slide at the speed of light to a crazy goat that will go jumping and making everybody fall!

But be careful, as your own weapons will also affect you!

Here’s a little screenshot on the arena, still unfinished, but I like how’s it looking. LAVA everywhere mwhahaha. I’m really starting to like setting up many ways for the player’s to die 😉

I didn’t join in the last LudumDare, but that’s done! I’m back to have some fun.

As usual, I’ll be enjoying this beautiful jam with:

Unity3D, Blender (just in case I use it), Photoshop and SFXR.

Let’s see what comes around, people! Good luck :)

Oh, I forgot: I’ll be streaming the whole event at twitch.tv/devmidgard

CandyWorm = sort-of-done.

The simplest and worst logo you’ll ever see.

So, that’s it, yep, I’ve sort-of-finished another game under 48 hours. It’s a really gratificant thing to do, I don’t even finish games outside LudumDare. So it’s a great thing for me, as for many other mentally or motivationally frustrated gamedevs out there.

But at least I think this game has a unique thing, some physics game is there calling on you to play it, even if it’s got its bugs (don’t judge me, it’s been made in under 48h), but they’re funny too. I like the overall game, even its bugs, it’s perfect on my eyes.

So LudumDare stage 2 (participate) has been done. Now I’ll go to this Rate button thing and I’ll rate your games, because I’m sure yours are AWESOME too, right? And I’m motivated to play a large amount of them, yeah, because it’s a thing. Ludum Dare is about the community! It’s great to see more and more game devs every year, seriously, it keeps getting magical somehow.

And yep, that’s it, I will not leave you without a screenshot of my game aaaand ofcourse a link to my entry page. HAVE A GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE, it’s been awesome.

PLAY IT RIGHT NAO!

MOM, WE WANNA GO CHINA – Presenting a kid

Ladies and gentlemen, after working a little bit more on the Server & Client’s code, I’ve been working on the graphics, also the sprites of the 4 kids you’ll play.

Here’s one:

He’s cute, isn’t he.

Now onto putting animations on ’em, and putting them inside the game, so we can actually win something!

MOM, WE WANNA GO CHINA

Hey there ladies and gentlemen.

After about 2 hours of wondering what kind of game I would do, I decided to risk myself into a simple Multiplayer Minigame.

I’ve now written the server & client codes, so it’s working with cubes right now, it’ll be up for 4 players and it will be a race between 4 kids to see who arrives to china first.

You’ll have to dig a hole in your garden (while the other players will do the same) and fall down, pick powerups, throw debuffs to other players and make yourself a victory!

So, there’s a lot of technical things to do even now, but I think tomorrow I’ll have something to show!

AHH man, I wish I had a good pixel artist :(

The Poncho Duelers: Finally out (*)

Posted by (twitter: @devMidgard)
Sunday, December 15th, 2013 7:36 pm

This is finally out! Completelly playable, but not as working as I’d want, looks like I’ll have to fix multiple things tomorrow, yeah.

This is basically a Wild West-like Duel game with only one bullet for each round, the difficulty progresses as the rounds keep coming, so you’ll have a nice game to test your mouse skills!

Also, there’s actually a simple Leaderboards System were the 5 skillest people will appear. I’ll delete all entries every day so less-skilled people get more chances, since I don’t think nobody will be playing this 24/7. But I’ll be happy if it entertains you for a minute! :)

Another Ludum Dare ends.. I mean, another MAGICAL event ends, I always get in because I freaking love to be developing as more than a thousand devs do, at the same time, that feeling is just great, and I want to thank the people who made this possible, because you guys fucking accomplish having 1k+ devs developing at the same time for a weekend! THAT’S AWESOME.

To make a note: While you play there will be actually people connected at the same time, it’s only that I have to fix some things between the Client and my Server, because it doesn’t seems to work right now, so keep in mind that you’ll be observed while playing – BWAHAHAHA!!

Or here to leave a comment on the entry page 😉
(I appreciate you a lot, there’s no matter between one option or the other.)
