So I tried to participate in the LD33 jam.
What went wrong? I got sick on that weekend, could not finish.
What went well? Mostly everything until I got sick.

Well… obviously one cannot choose the time when illness hits.
But since I had to finish a game anyway for my 1GAM commitment, I finished what I had begun for LD33 and ta-da: you can find the result on my itch.io page. Enjoy!

Argh… the monster got me. It´s the cold monster, yes, a very bad cold caught me, made me suffer badly with a sore throat, headache, fever and constantly running nose. The only way to survive was to sleep long and only dream of making a great LD game…

The monster is inside u-u-unity…
But still not rigged, not animated. And then I need to model two-legged food which runs away. And assemble some nice burping sfx. And so on. Much to do.

Thinking of something. The player is…

  • the Beast, not Beauty,
  • Alma, not a F.E.A.R. executive,
  • the dragon, not the knight,
  • the witch, but neither Hänsel nor Grätel,
  • an orc, not Frodo,
  • Dracula, not Van Helsing,
  • the sarlacc, not Luke,
  • the zombie pirate, not Guybrush,
  • the kid burning ants with a magnifier, not an ant,
  • the ants, not a scientist,
  • the mummy, not the archeologist,
  • The Machine, not Turrican,
  • the slave driver, not the liberator,
  • a ghost, not a Ghostbuster™,
  • a ghost, not Pacman,
  • the wolf, not a sheep,
  • the A.I., not a human being.

More ideas: Frankenstein? Godzilla? King Kong? An Evolve demake? A flesh-eating plant?
Nobody loves the monster. The monster is grotesque, a creature of the night, outlawed, hidden, too big, insatiable, ugly, not something to play with.

And it waits under the bed.

Taking part in the jam which is a welcome opportunity to get my #1GAM entry for August finished.
As usual my tools rack consists of:

  • Unity3d 5.1.2f1 pro (…currently still downloading), C#
  • InkScape, Paint.NET, Gimp
  • FLStudio 11, sfxr, ccMixter.org, Freesound.org
  • Blender, Substance Painter
  • Maybe Fraps to capture a video and Audials to convert it.

What will be the result? Some delicious webbuild that will get uploaded to my itch.io site at: http://jireugi.itch.io/

…aehem… still in warmup mode.

Ok. So after many moons I returned to participate in the Ludum Dare Jam once again. Soon I will finish another fine exemplary of experimental game art. Then the world will rejoice.

And afterwards I can continue finishing Watchdogs™.

Behold, oh mortals, the venue of work where my sweat will run aplenty:

BTW the chosen tools of my venture should be these:

  • Unity3D (pro 4.5) with a lot of free and commercial plugins (don´t know yet which ones of them I will use…)
  • FL Studio (I think I will install the latest version along the way… right now I have version 10 installed) and (of course) sfxr (or bfxr on Mac)
  • maybe InkScape, Paint.NET,  and theGimp
  • maybe Blender
  • maybe IcoFX
  • maybe “ArtRage” (which came along my smalll Wacom graphics tablet)
  • Fraps and/or Audials (to capture some ingame videos)
  • (usually) many (free) sound, music, graphics, and fonts assets from the vast lands of the internets (of course I will give detailed credits whenever and whereever I do so)

Let the jam commence!

(Well actually at my place it will be middle in the night when LD30 starts… 3 a. m. So I will sleep then. But don´t worry! You don´t have to wait until I´m awake. Just start on your own. I will blend in some hours later with freshly brewn coffee in my mouth.)

BTW: that´s the first time, I actually composed music for a game myself. In the past I always used to fetch nice CC tracks from other people. Hopefully the sound does not make your ears bleed 😀

Status update: “Morph, Virus, Morph!” v0.2

New stuff:

  • the player´s character (a green virus! what surprise!) is now animated.
  • the player can rotate/turn the camera left and right.
  • some red enemies rotate and wait for the player to shoot them.
  • at the far end of the level there is an exit waiting.

To do stuff:

  • Camera moves out of the level walls – ugly, must fix!
  • Enemies want to shoot player badly. Must implement this.
  • Maybe some health bar for the virus? (Do viruses in reality have … health?! Wondering….)
  • Dead enemies must drop “source code artifacts” -> for feeding the virus, so that it can evolve / mutate / grow / level up
  • Some UI for main menu etc (think I will use generic Unity-GUI – ugly, but times running out)
  • Some funny background story.
  • More levels.
  • UI for choosing the power-ups of the morphed virus.
  • Outro.
  • Now: empty the bottle of beer, then sleep a little.
