    hi. i’ve been quiet all weekend, but i (along with two teammates) did make a game. i was pessimistic about this theme at first, but it fortunately ended up giving me a really inspiring idea.

    the game has you platforming and using a dash attack to defend fellow dinosaurs against continuously spawning aliens. it’s a very skill based game. you have to jump around to avoid attacks while lining up your own attacks fast enough to keep the aliens from overwhelming you. eggs will periodically hatch in groups around the map, which triggers waves of aliens to be beamed in to evolve the hatching dinos. dinos that get hit with the alien evolution rays turn into new enemies for you to deal with. as the game progresses, they evolve into tougher creatures. you can see the whole level at once, so you’re able to be a little strategic about mopping up the aliens and evolved creatures. the gameplay is very fast paced, fun, and even flow-inducing.

    overall i’m quite happy with how it turned out. it has excellent pixel art provided by one of my teammates, and a little story to boot. so check it out!

    hey! it’s time for another fantastic LD weekend!!

    i haven’t decided yet whether i’ll be doing the compo or jam, but i’ll likely be working with my usual blend of löve/lua, photoshop, and ableton live. good luck everyone!

    once again the theme was not inspiring for me. after hours of brainstorming i couldn’t think of any ideas i could get excited about, so i’m out. i did make this little mockup though…

    LÖVE automatic distribution script

    to any LD love users, here’s a little python script to help with packaging up your games for distribution. it can run on any platform, and it creates a .love file and zips with executables for windows and mac. all you need is the script; it downloads the love binaries and libraries for you. i might add linux support later but packaging for that is a bit tricky and i’ll need to come up with a linux system to test on. it requires python 2.6 or greater. let me know if you find any bugs.

    run with -h for help. here’s a usage example:
    python lovedist.py -d felinus/game -n felinus -b com.maxcrane.felinus -N felinus0

    i added a mac version of my game FELINUS using this. i also wrote a little strategy guide for anyone who was having trouble figuring it out. find these at the link below. i’m going to write a postmortem for the game soon.

    the theme is not really inspiring me that much so i’m planning on spending the weekend working on my game from the last competition, the dream forest. i’ve made some progress since the end of LD21, but not nearly as much as i was hoping to have made by now. this time’s theme is actually quite relevant to the story i want to tell with it. here are some screenshots of my progress since the LD21 version:

    hello. here’s a screenshot of the game i’ve been working on for the compo:

    i’ve made some good progress but there’s a long way to go and i can feel the oncoming loopiness of sleep deprivation. in this game you are trying to escape from a magic forest. mellow ambient music and sounds set the mood. there are one or more mysterious creatures that you will encounter. i haven’t made them yet though so i can’t be sure. additionally: umbrellas. i’m making the game with löve, and this is my first time doing LD. i really hope i can finish :|
