[POST-MORTEM] – Corrupted AI

This time there was a longer concept phase with drawings and stuff. I was aiming for a puzzle, and being solo on this, I wanted to participate to the COMPO, but I wanted a bit more polish, so for the first time I chosed the JAM!

I was aiming for a very different art style, but looking at the clock and the time it would take, I decided the game would be about a computer & an AI.

02 03 04

The art style and effects are inspired by my old CPC 464 with a failing green screen. It was my first computer@10 and I remember myself coding a sh**ty text adventure.

img_2248The beast Amstrad CPC 464 @1984, before the floppy disk era.

The first day was very hard for me, I was supposed to work with a programmer friend but he couldn’t participate so I had to do all the code by myself and it was painful 😀

I recorded some voices by mic but didn’t include them. So it was an interesting experience, I think the puzzles suck a bit maybe you’ll like them anyway!

If you wanna play this little game :

PLEASE Chose the standalone windows version in fullscreen for best experience!
Thank You !

What if our Amstrad CPC 464 were alive ? [Corrupted AI]

Thinking about Unity, again.

After giving a try to UE4 for this Ludum Dare, I’m seriously thinking about going back to Unity (used version 4 before, a little bit, for LD28). UE4 is slow on my computer (Intel Hd 5000), makes it heat up and the material editor takes ages to refresh and fails to give instant visual feedback to the changes.

I really liked the blueprint system still.

So in Unity I saw they have multiple visual programming plugins now. What plugin would you pick yourself, looks like Playmaker got thousands of users, what is your Ludum Darer experience with it eventually ! and compared to Unreal Engine ?

Waiting for answers !

Trying to export to html5 with UE4 atm !

Where Am I ? [Post-mortem]

Hello there !
Wanted to use UE4 for this LD, so I made a project not original (at all) to get used to this engine.

So far, I think UE4 is a nice engine, but it crashes a lot :/ and I can’t even play my game on my computer flawlessly (ok I have an Intel HD 5000). I’m not satisfied about the art style I used and the creature is very groteske to my taste; but I have lost so much time trying to align meshes in the editor that I think I lost some creativity….

And blueprints are nice but I’m still having difficulties with it ! Look at this mess !

I’m asking myself if the sounds of rain and thunder I took on some free sounds samples website is ok, as I did the music and voices by myself and the global audio is made in my “own thinking” (sorry for my french!). I like to make all from scratch (even if I use references photos or else from the web, which I think is good) so I’m asking this !

Anyway here are some captures and timelapse video link !

Will test your games when I have time ! Post me a link to your game there or in the comments of my game !

Still looking for a programmer / game designer !

I’m still looking for someone to team up for the next ludum dare, I can make 2d or 3d things, I use and know Construct2, Blender, Zbrush.

If you have some experience with previous game jams I would be very happy ! I’d like to use UE4 but I’m open to other engines as well. We can use Skype to communicate.

Thank you Ludum Dare !

Photo reference used (Google), I think references are ok, right ?

Quite happy with this ludum dare, even if I couldn’t work much the first day :/

I felt quite limited by Construct this time, couldn’t make a side-view tower defense by code; I think I’m gonna look at Unity more seriously as I know C# a bit, and now they give shadows and shaders effects for free ! I’d like to merge my knowledge in 3d models with painterly 2d illustrations !

Concept background

What went good
– time : I could see how much time each task was going to take,
– visuals and sound : I concentrated much on the graphics and music again, but…

What went bad
– visuals and sound : …but I won’t do this again, next time I’ll work on a prototype until I get something fun, and make it pretty after,
– Construct2 : couldn’t do what I had in mind codewise, hello Unity!

Conclusion : Next LD, Construct or Unity, ugly game but fun. Now testing your games!
