No download yet. I don’t want to screw up the judging or anything.

Meeting the performance goal for “Jet Racing”

208 ghosts, 40% of a fairly weak CPU, 19 MB of RAM, and a steady 45 - 50 FPS. I love modern computers.

I love modern computers.

I iterate over every ghost car and draw it, whether it’s visible or not. Box2D does all the physics. Works great.

On Kaslai’s file hosting service:

I don’t trust him a lot so verify this SHA1 sum after you’ve got the file:

I should do sound effects this time

I’m going to use this acoustic guitar I’m borrowing to make sound effects, and maybe some other household items.

I don’t know what kind of effects yet, since the competition hasn’t started, but I’m sure I can do something.

F-Fine. But I’m not entering because I like you or anything

After a shitty rating on my Jet Fighting game last LD, I will reluctantly make another game.

I’ll be using the “Colorado” graphics classes again: https://gitorious.org/cyborgtroy-colorado/cyborgtroy-colorado

I might even follow the theme this time.

I think my Jet Fighting entry suffered because I didn’t like the theme, I had never written a proper game before (and perhaps still haven’t), and most importantly because I don’t like making games.

Please tell me if my game runs

Minimalism means making sound effects with your mouth.

I have a bunch of junk installed on my Windows partition and so I don’t know if the Win32 binary will run on a normal system.

The instructions are printed to standard output, so unless you run it from a console, you won’t see any sort of text. That’s business with minimalism.

Here’s the game, with me losing once:

I’m just trying to figure up where to upload this thing.

I am experiencing some odd kind of lag with 3,000+ physics bodies

So I’m trying to make something more interesting in terms of bullet patterns. This one is 18 spiral arms, 9 in each direction, firing basically every frame.

There’s not enough room to dodge anything, though, since I still haven’t shrank the player’s hitbox.

How can I make this more interesting?

jet fighters26

Right now I’m spawning a circle of 8 enemy fighters. They fly around in the circle and track the player and shoot.

The bullet pattern is too chaotic to reliably dodge, and the player’s hitbox is too big anyway.

What should I do?

Darn those round numbers, being exact multiples of each other

At this rate, I could almost make a game!

What we have here is an AiJet, in red, tracking my player jet, in blue.

So all I need to do is make up some interesting AI patterns, have some kind of enemy emitter / dispatcher to get those enemies on-screen, and then maybe add a couple of superweapons and a boss or two.

I can probably do that tomorrow.

Now that I have a background, I feel obligated to put shadows on it. I shouldn’t waste time like that, though.
