Ludum Dare 38 meetup at Newspeak House, London!

Hi everyone!

Rosa & I are organising a meetup for Ludum Dare 38 at Newspeak House in London.

If you’re in or around London on the Ludum Dare weekend, come jam with us!

Newspeak House

What is Newspeak House?
Newspeak House is a hackspace for politics. Started by Edward Saperia, it is a hub for people who believe that technology has the power to improve society.

We will be jamming in their communal space, a spacious and bright room on the ground floor of the building and a stone-throw away from Shoreditch High Street. If the weather is nice, we can also make use of their terrace.

There will be:

Lightning fast internet speeds
24 hour access
Free food and drink
Optional self-care activites
Tables and chairs

What to bring:

A laptop and charger
Pens, paper, whiteboards – what you need to get creative
A sleeping bag and a pillow
A matt or blow-up mattress

Please sign up on the EventBrite at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/ludum-dare-game-jam-at-newspeak-house-tickets-32981465451

Money from ticket sales will all go towards providing free food and drink. If you are a student or unemployed and cannot afford a ticket, contact Rosa at r.carbomascarell (at) gmail (dot) com or tweet at her on @moreelen.

Hope to see you there!

Elympics API Java wrapper

Hi all,
This morning I put together a Java wrapper for dollarone’s elympics API for MiniLD72.
You can get it from GitHub at https://github.com/alyphen/elympics-api – there are instructions for Maven and Gradle in the readme, or you can download it from the releases tab.
Have fun!

We’re in!

I’ll be participating in Ludum Dare 35 with a team of people who I’ve worked with in previous jams and hackathons – Jeff, whom I met at GGJ15 and Seraphina, whom I met at HackJustice.
We’ll be working with Python and either Pygame or Ren’Py, depending on what the theme lends itself towards.

So coalesce is done. I’m pretty pleased with the result this time.

Grab some friends, and get online. I might try and organise a schedule later so that we can get enough people playing.

Music is done:

So, stuff moves now.
We have a first and second player, one at the top and one at the bottom. They both compete for the blobs in the middle and grow, but slow down when they consume them. Both players move along their tracks continuously.

It should follow the line. It’s too early for maths.
Why are diagonals so hard? ;_;

I’m in.

This will be my sixth time participating, the first being LD24.
I’ll probably be working in Java again.
Best of luck, all.

I’ve got a day’s leave booked following the event and I’ll try and get a short Friday before starting, so this time I can actually get enough time to complete something decent without falling asleep. Looking forward to the event, two weeks to go!

Oh hey, I’m in again.
I’ve booked off the Monday following and hopefully this time I’ll not be totally drained from work and make something that’s just-about-playable.
I’ve not really decided what to use yet – it really depends on what theme and what sort of game that inspires me to write.
If anyone’s interested in meeting up in London or Reading, I might come along. I can organise one if there’s enough demand.

This is the second Dare that I’ve been dissatisfied with, but you can play my game at http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-32/?action=preview&uid=14242
There’s so much I wanted to add and the quality standard is far below what I wanted to do. It is playable, however, and the music’s pretty good, so give it a shot.

So, I’ve been doing various jams since LD31, travelled around the country a bit.

I tried to organise a meetup for LD32, but no one responded, so I’m cancelling.

Anyway, I’ll most likely be participating with Java & LibGDX. Looking forward to it!

Reading meetup is now free

I’ve decided to change the Reading event to be free, and add the option to donate to cover costs if you want. (I’ll cover the rest of the costs myself.)

If anyone’s interested, check http://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/ludum-dare-32-real-life-meetup-reading-uk-tickets-16402856385

Would be great to get a few of you together, there were a few of you that expressed interest but none of you have signed up yet.

Thinking of hosting a real-life meetup in Reading, UK

If there’s anyone in or around the Reading area interested in attending a real life meetup, I’m thinking about hiring out the Novatel or the Ibis – let me know of interest (would likely be a small fee to cover costs) and I’ll look into it if there’s enough of you.
