I’ll be using C++ with SFML

I’ll try to finish a game even if I wont be able to code the whole week-end.

Already 100 scores saved!

THRUST is a space racing game, in which you will have to avoid the walls and try to pickup as many cargo crates as you can. To do that, you can only go up and down (two buttons theme).

My game alows the players to save their scores online and a highscore table is available in-game (as well as on a website). More than 100 scores have already been saved!

You will be able to find the whole score table by clicking here!

The first score is not so high though, I think you can do better :)

Edit: by the time I write this post, the game got over 100 scores saved 😮

I made my game from scratch in C++ using SFML lib. I used Gimp for graphics resources, Audacity and online generators for the music and SFXR for the sounds.

No inspiration for the “I’m in” title

Hi guys !

I’m a french programmer that try to make some small video games on my free time, when I have some :p I can say it’s been a long time, last time I made one was for 32nd LD… We’ll see what I’ll be able to do.

This LD will be my sixth one, I managed to finish four games in previous Ludum Dares. I’m mostly here for fun. Each jam I try to improve one aspect of my games. The last time I kinda wanted to improve my workflow and my custom framework (built on SFML in C++) but I just hadn’t any time for that. This time we’ll see what to improve, maybe the music.

I’ll use C++ and SFML, wich is a great library built on top of OpenGL. You can find more information about it on SFML website.

I’ll also use my own “framework”, just a bunch of tools using SFML in C++. It’s not complete yet , but never will be. Anyone who wants to use it is welcome to do so. Here is the GitHub link. You can checkout some of my games or other tools/libs on my GitHub account.

Good luck to everyone !

Nice results!

Yeah! I’m 61th in the “Theme” category!

I never compete for the global Top 100 because I’m not good enough for that and my pleasure comes from coding the whole game from scratch, but if I had to chose a category to be well ranked in it would have been the “Theme” (and “Fun” and “Innovation” if I had to chose more).

So this is a really good news, I’m so glad :)

Muchas gracias to everyone that took the time to play, rank and give me feedback about my game!

I think the game is done

I have the terrible feeling of forgetting something…

Meanwhile I play my game and use the extra time to tweak some values! You can have a preview of the game here:

All the gameplay is implemented, as well as AI. Tomorrow I’ll do all the fancy stuff: camera shaking, camera splashes, sounds, musics, particles, etc.

Basic movements and weapon usage

I’m done adding movements and weapon usage. Now I can add some zombies, make audio, sounds, camera shakes, particles, etc. Okay, I’m feeling a bit late…

Hi guys !

I’m Lo-X, I’m a french programmer that try to make some small video games on my free time, when I have some :p

This LD will be my fifth one, I managed to finish only three games in previous Ludum Dares. I’m mostly here for fun. Each jam I try to improve one aspect of my games. Last time it was the audio but I had to forget about it, I do not have the required stuff to do good quality recordings. This time I’ll try to improve the general workflow and my homemade framework ready-to-start effectiveness.

Game Testing Session #1

game_testing_session

Hi guys.

Usually I test games in the dark corner of my room and don’t tell anyone about anything. I decided to be a bit more social this time and I’ll share with you my feelings (about the games of course). That will be a good way to share people’s games. I decided to talk about games that I found on my own entry page, as well as the first ones (in order, when I could play them) from the entry list. No distinction between Compo and Jam, I just click the link, play, write some notes and feedback.

Dodge Pong (Compo)

Really good arcade game. The addictive ones. Movement are a bit tricky at start but you finally get used to it. I really like the weirds effects the ball can have. Sometimes it just spin around me and I don’t know what direction to face. The precision meter is a nice feature, it remind you how much you suck at touching the ball :)
That’s a really fun and addictive game, simple and fun.

CERT (Jam)

That’s a Super Meat Boy like, with perma-death. Fans of Super Meat Boy will like this game. I’m Super Lame at that kind of game and get frustrated very fast so I couldn’t finish it, there certainly is a lot of challenge in that game.
Graphisms are nice pixel arts, there is a nice fake old tv screen effect.
The only weak point is the lack of audio content.

Penguins Can’t Fly (Jam)

Well, as a Linux user I couldn’t let a game with penguins escape without a test.
Penguins Can’t Fly is a fairly simple but yet entertaining game in which you can shot everything that moves. AND I LIKE THAT. Just spammed my canon, try to get these aliens out of my sky. It become more and more challenging as times goes. Speaking about time, the nice touch is that day and night mood.
I just regret not having some score board of all my runs to compare them.

Ocean Crossing (Compo)

Okay, I’ll be honnest that’s not the best game I played so far. In the game you have to cross an ocean by going right (east) and some random events, positive and negative, will happen. Ultimately, it’s just a question of luck, for the good events to balance the wrong ones. I managed to cross after three attemps just by pressing the right arrow of the keyboard continuously. So entertainment is a minima, an easter egg (that I haven’t found yet) is hidden in the game. I suppose it’s a matter of exploration but nothing sure. No music, either. The graphics are pretty nice tho.
That said, the creator just had 7 hours of work and that’s not so bad for making a game like that.

Television Screen (Jam)

This was an hard one for me. Not the game itself, but the fact that you can only move with WASD and I have a french keyboard with ZQSD. Including arrow keys would have been nice, that’s what I do for lost guys like myself.
I would have expected better graphics from a jam entry. The music become annoying soon enough but, well, isn’t it the game of almost all of them is any jam ?
I had trouble to understand what the goal was so I almost only explored.
This guy took the theme seriously, the game is actually inside an image of a screen.

See you soon for another test series !

Well, not all the features I planned are implemented, but the game is still fully playable and, I think, fun.
Time to port on Windows !
