Done in 48 minutes!

Hello fellow gamedevs :)

I love competing in Ludum Dare and have done 4 compos previously. However this time I just haven’t got the weekend free to spend on it so I hadn’t planned on entering. So this morning when I checked the theme I was happy to see 10 Seconds as it game me an idea, If I can’t dedicate 48 hours to the Jam, can I afford 48 minutes?

So that’s what I’ve done, 48 minutes from blank game-engine project to completed game.

I used Haxe NME (not updated to OpenFL just yet) and my own pre-existing game tools (screen flow, maths and text helpers and so on).

I’ll be uploading and submitting my game to the Jam (not the compo) in a few mins but for now here’s some screenshots of my dev environment with the looming timer on display:

I’m (@nixeldev) all setup now for @paulstamp and @markavian coming round to jam later :) We’re all doing individual games but it’ll be cool to get a creative dev vibe going on for the weekend :)

Just gotta think of what I’m gonna do now. I’m sat staring at a blank unity3d window. Certainly minimal… Box-It-Up! Ship it!

Hi guys,

This will be my fourth LD and I can’t wait :) I’ve kicked the Mrs and the kids out for the weekend and have got 2 fellow coders coming over to compete also.

I usually use Haxe, but I think I want to shake things up a bit this time.

I’ll probably be using:

Unity3D
Sublime Text 2
Photoshop
Google Sketchup
GarageBand

No doubt something will pop-up that I’m not expecting, but I’ll list that as-and-when :)

Actually, I chose to do the Jam entry this time and found it a much more relaxed experience :)

I’ll have a post-mortem to come soon but for now, please play my game :p

This will be my third Ludum Dare, Off to a friends house for the weekend with the mac in-tow :) Lots of energy drinks and beer at the ready.

Im doing the Jam this time round to relieve some of the stress and just enjoy it :)

I’m likely to write the game in Haxe using IntelliJ, Photoshop, Flash and Audacity.

There’s still loads I’d have like to have done, and I may do laters, but for now it’s sorta complete :) ish.

Here’s a quick video of the game so far.

The premise is to navigate round the little galaxy as a dangerous nuke, destroying the planet you’re on in order to reach a neighbouring globe.

Well, Day one was a little painfull, had some teathing trouble getting box2d and my cameras to behave. Still, it is what it is. Here’s a video of progress so far…

Ok, so after my family and car commitments this morning I’m now able to start work properly on my game :)

I’m thinking a mario galaxy sorta platform game. It’ll be built using box2d, haxe and my game tools (which I posted previously). It’s for flash a target, since I find it quicker for debugging etc.

Hi all,

I wouldn’t normally be able to participate in Ludum Dare, with having kids and what-not, but it just so happens my partner is going on holiday with both kids this weekend… fate? I think so.

Anyways, I’ll be using Haxe and NME, along with a very rough set of game tools I’ve pre-written. You can get the code here for the pre-written stuff, but it is pretty dirty so use with caution :p

I look forward to massive amounts of Monster and dreams of code :)
