A web version for Fragment !

Posted by (twitter: @lesterpig)

Hey guys !

I just published a web version on our game, “Fragment”. Works well with WebGl, thanks to LibGdx libraries !

However, this version is still experimental. Music can become unsync with graphics :( And you really have to listen the music to win this game !

Good news ! The game engine is now finished !

We have now to make the graphics and the level design 😉
Creating a platform game is a very exciting experience !

This time, I won’t be alone for the ludum ! I don’t want ugly graphics again >_<

For my third participation, I’ll do the jam with by girlfriend, Yukiren (who is a veryyy veryyy good designer !).
It is her first participation in LD. I hope she’ll enjoy it !

Stuff :

  • Libgdx (desktop and/or android) as game engine
  • PA588 Korg Keybord for the music (or/and maybe some softwares… 😉 )
  • A good mic or Bfxr for the sound effects
  • Photoshop & Asprite for graphics

My first & second ludum games were based on PHP/Html5 but it’s very difficult to make dynamics games with PHP. So, I decided to learn Java with Libgdx.

Objective : probably a good retro game ! :)

Let’s do it !

Audio … 2.94 … What ?!

Hi everybody !

So I’m a bit disappointed  about the results of my game…

Even if lot of people like my game’s music, I’ve reached only 2.94/5 points in audio… What ?! To my mind, this is a bad result. Very bad. I spent a lot of time creating the music, and only 2.94 … that’s not cool for me.

But… How were the results calculated ? I guess this is not a simple average of all votes…

So. I don’t know if I would participate to another ludum. I’m really disappointed…

Some stats :D

So ! It was a great ludum dare. Really… But I’m a little bit disappointed about the lack of votes and comments of my game, Disease. I received only 9 comments for 24 votes; but the game has been started 428 times, and only two players has finished it (in easy mode, me and a very patient player ^^)…

My game is really… hard. It’s true. I had no time to create some in-game help… Look : there was around 20’000 monsters for 428 players, that’s really … too much ! The map is too really big (138 rooms) and is very boring.

♪♫ To my mind, the best thing in my game is the music. You can listen it now ! Just click here♪♫

And you can also play to my game :) Just click the image below 😀

And I will be very happy if you comment / vote on the submission page 😉

Post-mortem, new version, and more !

So, It’s my second ludum dare at 17 years old, and I’m very proud of my game, Disease.

But during the compo, I haven’t got so much time to test and polish the game… That’s why I published an post-compo, “Easy Version”, which is easier and which fixes many bugs. Here is some screenshots 😉

I published too a Timelapse, a High Scores page and some tips !

What went right:

  • The game is really playable and we can finish it correctly.
  • I spent a lot of time to create music, and I’m very proud of the result. But Sfx aren’t really good…
  • The map of the game is big (130 maps!), so it’s very nice for players 😉
  • I slept enough time (around 16 hours).

What went not as right as I expected:

  • I spent tooooooo much time creating the rendering/collisions engine with javascript/Dom. I should use more game libraries…
  • I spent tooooooo much time creating an automatic map rendered. But it was fun ^^
  • I’m not an artist, so my graphics aren’t as good as I expected. But it was my first game animations and I’m happy with this !
  • There are a lot of bugs in my compo version. I’m sad. But you can play “Easy Version” to play without bugs 😉
  • I had no time to add an help section of the game. If you’re stuck, read the tips in my submission page.
  • Javascript/Php engine is very loooong to render. It’s sometimes unconformable for the player. Sorry.
  • I had no time to create the “Online mode” : it should be a multi-player mode… :(
  • I’m very bad speaking english …

It is the second time I used PHP to render, and it’s not a good idea. I would probably study HaXe, flash or java engines, which are great for web games.

So ! I finished my game with 1420 points (easy version) !

If you finish it with more points, I will give you a kiss ! ♥ And if you finish it in the compo version, I will… hm… no. Bad idea.

Play now !

Yeah, night is good for composing music ! 😀

I finished the music of my game. You can play it here

So, I’m very happy of this first day developping my game.

Your objective will be to destroy a human … but you’re just a disease ! :)

This night I would create the sounds and music of the game. And here is some screenshots ^^

See you tomorow !

Here we go !

Idee : OK !

Motivation : Good !

So… let’s go 😉 It will probably be a very dark game… starting designing the graphics !

Second LD for a young dev ! :)

Hi !

I’m a 17 years old french developper, and I’m ready for my second Ludum Dare ! But I don’t now if I will make a game for the compo or for the jam … Depending of the theme ! One more time, I would use web tools to create this game.

  • Core : HTML/JavaScript but too PHP, Ajax and even SQL (eheh)
  • Engine : Jquery / Jquery UI (if allowed)
  • Sound Engine : SoundManager2
  • Graphics : GIMP
  • IDE : NetBeans 6.9
  • SFX : A good micro and a real life 😉
  • Music : WorkStation KORG PA588
  • A lot of coffee.

Good luck ! 😀

_ waiting _

edit : last time, I said I should code in C++ or flash, but to my mind I’m not ready to do this. Maybe next LD ? 😉

Results of my first LD…

Hi everybody ! 😀

So… let’s talk a little about the results of my first Ludum Dare…

Firstly, I’m very proud of me : I’m just a french teen (16 y.) and my game isn’t in the black bottom of the results (View). I think that my game isn’t not completed : there’s no audio, and only 6 different objects ! More over, there is no exit in the Maze… So you can’t win the game. A huge problem, isn’t it ? eheh. That’s probably because I wanted to create a multi-player game : It took a lot of time, obviously more as a single game…

My game is obviously boring. Not enough monsters, objects, reactions with the others players, always the same thing (“Random ! Random ! Random !” Said DogBomb 😉 ). 48 hours was too short to really complete the game… So, to my mind, making a multiplayer game is really hard during the compo.

An other thing… I used PHP to make the game, and It’s obviously not enough funny for the player, not enough… “reactive”, even if I used javascript and Jquery  applications. Next time, I will code in C++ , oder in flash. But It’s an other history…

But I’m very happy because I’ve created a nice maze generator algorithm (3 hours to do this ! :O) … But the maze is really too huge for the 16 players in each instance of the game… You’re very lucky if you cross an other player, and if he’s not dead ! 😛

Now, some stats !

  • 8 mazes created, 6 517 rooms generated
  •  1 580 rooms in fire
  •  6 674 monsters spawned
  • 142 objects on floor
  • 112 players, 32 are dead
  • High score : 95

Hey ! :)

I’ve just encoded a nice 2D world generator… Will you find the exit alone ?

Here is an example 😉
