Is this… is this an Armored Tree?

And how is that a monster? Is it enough to be an aberration? Or should it slice, burn and impale little birds? (Or not even that, maybe I forced the theme too much, as usual)

A little post-mortem

Since this is the first game I made since my daughter was born, she is 4 months old now, I planned for a 15-20 hour/work game instead of the usual 30-40 so I focused in the fun part (I love little lander games, always make prototypes but never full games) and thought of a simple art style that I could do myself.

Keeping it short:

What went right:

-I wanted to try pixel art, it was hard to make it look good, but it was perfect to do with only a mouse.

-I also liked how the particles ended, they are my second favorite part of this game.

-Love this kind of game, so I really liked the gameplay

-The multiple ways to kill birds, not as rewarding as I wanted it to be, but I liked the result.

What went wrong:

-The original idea required the birds to nest the trees instead of destroying them (it was a big part of the monstrosity of the tree). Completely forgot about that until the last moments (50 minutes before the deadline the trees weren’t even colliding with the birds). So, no time to add new graphics, just added some ugly ass green particles and called it a day.

-There are a number of bugs (birds that kill themselves count points, forgot to actually destroy the monster-tree when it dies, and the pine-cones).

-The trees are way to blended with the background..

-Sound of some bird deaths turned out weird.

Thats it, if you’ve got a chance to play it, I hope you have fun!

Pixel Arting is hard

I think they are good enough (except that it looks like the three on the front are merging too much with the background)

And together:

A little late, but I think I can do it.

Will use Construct 2 and Paint.net

Will try pixel art this time.

I’m actually having ideas! Honestly, I feel this theme gets better the more you think about it…

-I will be using:
libgdx (first time using this engine, but I’m having good feelings about it) I plan to do a html release for this ld, and later release the same project for other platforms. I must remember to save at least a couple of hours for deployment!

Paint.net for images (maybe ArtRage or some paper/scanner shenanigan)

Audacity for sound.

Good luck everyone!

Gorillas 2100 is pretty much the old QBasic gorillas game, but half underwater, (with a somewhat modernized gameplay mechanic) with online multiplayer (and at night?).

I really wanted to test the new Multiplayer engine on Construct 2, and it works… wasn’t so easy to do, but it was much easier than Java for example. I did spend about 70% of the work just on that part of the game. There are still some bugs, but could be worse.

The singleplayer AI works by trying shots and adjusting its aim, it does not cheat. So it kinda looks like a player… kinda.

It was a good run! Nice work everyone!
See you next compo!

Using Construct 2

not started with ANY artwork yet, starting to panic.

Players will find a way

Isn’t it Amazing when you make a game so hard that even you has problems playing it, then someone comes and tell you that they’ve found a way (GIF):

Acrobat Saci

Ready for the Olympics

This is me trying it, but I’ve got reports of people reaching 21m using this technique.

(By the way, the game has QWOP like gameplay, but only one leg.)

Going to sleep.
So far I think I was able to integrate LAG in the gameplay, this is among the most anoying games I’ve ever played/done.
The point of each level is to recover the Lagbird eggs lost (he was using UDP), and you have 10 seconds to get each egg (so the lag REALLY makes things dificult)
Each egg you recover, adds more lag to the game (like latency, ALL your inputs will be at a delay).
When all the eggs are got, you go to the next level.

Good night.

I feel there is a potato easter egg somewhere in the game.

And an extra game: http://pcnogueira.com.br/jogos/bolagude/katato/ (very unfinished)

potatos. (It’s still minimalist, I guess)

From now on, everytime I’m unhappy with a game I’m making, will add potatos.

PS: I’m still trying to model that hearth shaped potato on blender (to use as main), but I fail.

Something playable

Is minimal fun a thing? I think it’s about 60% ready, still lacking sound, menu, and a probable shot power control.

I changed my mind, now I like this theme

As posted before by Daisuke9091 ( http://exilelifestyle.com/minimalism-explained/) this link made me understand what minimalism really is.

“What Minimalism is really all about is reassessment of your priorities so that you can strip away the excess stuff – the possessions and ideas and relationships and activities – that don’t bring value to your life.”

So it’s not about making a cow clicker, instead, it’s about making Counter Strike without the excess stuff. (At least that’s how I see it)

Not the theme I was hoping for, but that’s not important.

Will try Unity this time (kinda newb at it)

Good luck everyone.
