I’m In

For the second time, I’m in.

On my first try I had only 30 hours to work on the game, as I had to work on saturday and had an exam on sunday morning. This time I will be alone on my small kitchnet and will have the entire weekend, until monday night, to make it.

I’ll use Unity, scripting in C#. If I manage to make anything playable I’ll already be very happy.

Lost Earth – a bug fix and a minor update

I barely made it.

I built something. In 30 hours, because I had to work on Saturday and had an important exam in Sunday morning. I thought I could beat the challenge, and almost made it to the end.

I switched my project two times, and that made me lose even more time. I only nailed what I would really do today at 3 AM.

The core of the game is there, but I just didn’t managed to build a level, nor to implement the power-ups and the variety of weapons and enemies. Not even the SoundFX effects or the animations I made. Much less to put the lore in the game. That’s the saddest part, as I made something I thought was interesting.

This is the first game I ever made start-to-end. And I’m kind of proud about it. No, I’m seriously proud.

  • After some feedback I fixed the bug that made the game freeze after the player character died. Now it gives a 2-sec Game Over screen and loads Main Menu screen.
  • Fixed the bug that made all the alien ships chase the player from the beginning of the level. Now they only activate when the player comes close. But they still annoyingly manage to pass by the wall tiles. Heck!

  • A Post-Mortem.
  • The Procedural Level Generator.
  • Fix the but on the controls.

The Hype is On

Ok, I’ve gone to sleep just after the theme release, and woke up a hour and half ago. Now it’s 7:30 AM here in Brazil and I’ll go to work, but doing already some sketches of the art while I’m there. Unfortunately I’ll only code tomorrow and monday, because of job.

I was hoping to go with an old design of mine, which I call “Villagers of The Stone Age”, a kind of First-Person City Builder. But that would rely too much on a nailed AI to work, and I doubt I would manage to do that on the little time I have.

So I’m going with an arcade-style (8bit graphics plus chiptunes) sci-fi roguelike where the Protagonist traverse the galaxy (each level a planet, ten levels) looking for clues to find the location of the mythic planet Earth, where some half-witted not-exactly-scientists claim that Humanity first evolved. He will have to scavenge the ruins of millenia-old cities and colonies, and will have to fight the resistance of an old grumpy religious fundamentalist Secret Society.

And of course he will find some helping figures, like Isaac on Trantor, Philip on Sirius, and Sid on Alpha Centaury. 😀

Good luck to all of us!!!

I’m in… for first time. In part-time.

I’ll participate on the Jam for first time, but I’ll work on saturday and sunday morning, so I’ll only work on the game from sunday’s noon to monday’s night. Half the time.

New to game dev, with some experience on small projects, I’ll do what I can. If I deliver something playable I’ll be happy enough.

I’ll use Stencyl, because it’s more quick to put things up, and Inkscape for the sprites. I’m really excited about all that.
