After half a year our “Sola Mors” game which has been developed for the Ludum Dare #33 has been greenlit on the Steam GreenLight!

Positrons – a new very dynamic and trending arcade game

In this game it is necessary to control a positron and avoid collisions with electrons to prevent annihilation. The game is extremely dynamic, quite difficult, requires a good reaction, but the records don’t stop to be beaten. The rating of the game is high and the game itself is in the top among the most trending arcade games.

Super Stones: Behind the Scenes. Part 1 – Coding

Hi, folks!

There have been done a lot of work during the development of Super Stones. It is a really complicated project with a lot of features and interesting details.

One of the exciting tasks was a creation of dynamic platforms system. The following image briefly explains the principles of it’s work:

It’s clear that we combine about 100 platforms in a platforms set and, finally, use 9 such sets in order to create an infinite space.

The pure result of such a system can be illustrated by the following image (taken from the early builds):

The other details of the project:

  • Unity 3D as a game engine (version 5.3);
  • Prime31 TouchKit for controlling the touch system;
  • Unity IAP for in-app purchases;
  • C# as a programming language;

As a programmer, I would like to highlight the main features of the source code:

  • Object pooling instead of multiple instantiations;
  • Dynamic batching as a main priority;
  • Use of strong OOP with different design patterns (actually, it helps a lot when you have a complex project);

We’ve achieved some good-looking results so far, but we have a long way ahead. We would be very happy to take You, dear friend, with us. First stop on the way – Steam Greenlight. From the very beginning, it was our goal and our dream – to make it to the Steam. And now, we have this opportunity. We want to share our ideas with as much people as possible, and we certainly could use your help. Check our game, and imagine what a tasty piece it will be, when we will finish it. Sola Mors (“but death is certain”, Latin) – is an arcade game with an original game mechanics, exciting gameplay and stylish graphics.

– control a group of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world full of zombies;
– collect aid kits in order to protect the group from an infection;
– become an enemy for yourselves, because zombies – are kind of projections of the survivors, which follow the path of a player;
– compete with your friends in multiplayer via split-screen mode for up to 4 players;
– choose your actions very carefully and quickly – the zombies repeat your actions;
– always be on the alert, because to become infected in this world is extremely easy.

Have never seen such kind of games, despite the fact that the genre of arcades is one of the oldest ones” @InterGamesCorporation

Road to the Steam Greenlight. Day 1

Day 1.

There was a meeting of the “Akku Games” team at 11AM, which contains the following people: Tima Zhum, Alex Vizalerd, and Adil Tasimov.
The theme of the Ludum Dare #33 has just been published and we’ve started a brainstorming of ideas. Here is a short description of the algorithm we used:

– To choose a genre;
– To choose a setting;
– To choose a style;
– To choose a game mechanics;
– To choose the main gameplay components;
– To analyze the competitiveness of the idea;
– To analyze the playability of the idea.

Then there has been created a short plan for the following 3 days of a development.

At 3PM the main stage of a development began.
It was required:
– To create 3D models of an environment;
– To code the basics for a player behaviour;
– To code the basics for an enemy behaviour;
– To code the basics for a generator of the levels;
– To specify details of the gameplay requirements;
– To create a primitive PR-campaign.

It seems like the list is small, but it required a lot of time, unfortunately.

What have we received?
A prototype of a 3D arcade game with an unusual and original game mechanics and a stylish cartoon graphics. Right now the developed components are not combined into one scene, that is why the following video simply shows one of the game locations.

We are a small team of indie-developers from Kazakhstan, called Akku Games.

It is a second time when we participate in the Ludum Dare and maybe you remember our previous project which is still in the development – Dead Pixel.

Nevertheless, it’s time to pause the development of this project in order to create a new extremely cool game in 3 days for the Steam! Yes, very hard, very short deadlines, very risky.

However, we hope that the community of the Ludum Dare will support us, because it is not merely our game – it’s a project of all the Ludum Dare participants, especially you, dear reader.

GOOD NEWS ABOUT DEAD PIXEL!

We’ve almost done the 3rd level with a lot of awesome things such as thorns, beams, flying angel-pixels, switches, “spring”-platforms, mirrors and etc. What does it mean? It means that because of your positive comments about the game, we’ll continue the development with more serious attitude and maybe deploy it on Steam’s Greenlight or even port it to mobile platforms! Yeah!
