Ludum Dare is this weekend and I am thinking about giving it a shot? The theme is connected worlds.

My current thought is a match game with cards representing different types of opression. The nod to the theme would be intersectionality/kyriarchy being how these different world view filters or “worlds” are “connected”

It’s simple but I also don’t have a whole lot of time to do the thing AND i have social obligations to work around this weekend too. Any thoughts? Is this an awful idea? Any examples you think should be included?

What’s missing? what should be left out? what public domain images would be good representations of these concepts?

Didn’t get nearly as much implemented as I wanted to this go around. I probably should have stuck to a game type I’ve done before. I got some basic thematic type stuff in there which makes me happy though, and am learning some of the repeat type stuff I can try and streamline in the future (toggling mute for example. start off with the ability to reset the game so people can play again after they finish).

I’ve settled on a shooter and have some pretty basic things set up. Now we need to eventually get the other people to fight back instead of letting you slaughter them.

I really understand the advice I’ve heard before of figuring out what you want to do before hand, and tailoring it to the theme once its announced. I still had no work on the game I ended up doing more then 18 hours in.

UI

I got the game functioning technically, all the game logic is there and win conditions work but the UI is awful. I know its awful because I didn’t really get to finish it. There is little feedback on what is actually going on and that is frustrating.

AI

I also never got a chance to add AI so its a hotseat game. This is probably going ot cut into the judgability a lot since judges won’t necessarily have someone to play with or be willing ot hotseat with themself.

Outside tools are useful

The tools section was very great. The pyxel tool helped me a lot with the images. It will also make upgrading the graphics easy.

so Figuring out what direction to go and how to do it was the biggest problem, but the tools section here on the LD site was very helpful once I got going.

most of my comments about what i was doing during the LD were on my Google+ instead of on here because that was easier to just post real quick. Sorry about that.

since there is a free version of the NGUI framework for unity3d would it be okay to use that even though what I have is the pay version? the main difference if I remember correctly is water marks and getting updates sooner but if that’s not I guess I could re-download the free version.

I’ve kept putting it off because of real life things getting in the way but I’m finally going to buckle down and do it this weekend.
