End of Day 1

So after 14 hours of work today, I’ll go tired to bed. I have successfully implemented a bitmask platformer. Created a game mechanic which brings great speed and action to the game. I have also implemented the enemy AI. The only coding left is the level change code, the time constraint, and winning/losing scenarios. So quite the day. Tomorrow will be graphics day. The current vector graphics style is quite ugly, but I hope the hand drawn levels will fit the game perfectly.

I also have a few others ideas to implement if the time will allow it. Power-up hopefully. Animations maybe.

So before I leave, here is a picture of the current game. The graphics is horrible, but the mechanics is in place.

Good luck to all of you, who are still working 😀

20 bugs later…

So after using 1 hour on finding a stupid Integer rounding bug, I have finally implemented the game’s secondary mechanic. A gun with crazy high recoil. This weapon can be used both to kill the enemies and to fling yourself across the map. Even though the player only have 10 seconds to finish the map, this weapon allows the player to travel across rather large maps, giving the game a really fast paced feeling.

So now that player movement and actions are implemented, I will start on implementing the time constraint, power-ups and enemies. Hopefully I will also have some time to start the graphics. The levels will be hand-painted and will probably take lots of time. So back to work!

4 hours in LD27

So after about 4 hours of work I got some pretty good primary mechanics going.

Initially I though the theme was to restrictive, but

The Idea is a fast paced platformer in space, where you have 10 seconds to get from point A to B.

In some levels there will be “reset time” power-ups.

The collision system is bitmask based, so the graphics are separated from the collision boxes. Hopefully that will allow me to use some sweet hand drawn visuals later.

For the secondary mechanic I am thinking of some weapon that can also be used to

propel yourself. Maybe a shotgun with high recoil or some form of slingshot.

The focus will be on quality instead of content, some the game will probably be short. Very short. Like total playtime ~5 min.

Hopefully I’ll have more to show in a few hour’s.

I’m in 😀

Excited as always.

Even though I planned to create a web game this time using HTML5 or Flash, I will be using the usual homebrewn Java game engine. Javascript is a pretty weird language for a fan of static typing, and Flash doesn’t really work with Linux.

So the tools I will be using are:

Engine: DiLogic (Quite the mess at the moment)

IDE: IntelliJ IDEA

Graphics: Photoshop using my new Wacom Tablet

SFX: SXFR (Duh?)

Music: Either Autotracker or DroneFX

But what the heck is up with the Tower Defense thing?

A great Ludum Dare theme should in my opinion:

  •   Prevent people from preparing art and game logic before hand. Sure Ludum Dare is just for fun, but the time constraint is a big part of the fun.
  •  Force people to create games, they would otherwise never think of. The theme constrain makes it a lot easier to come up the unique ideas

So I’m not gonna make a Tower Defense.

But I might include some tower in a bit different way. #LDTO

Good luck to all fellow participants!

And remember to have fun !

So I decided to create a puzzle platformer, but at the moment there is still no sign of the puzzle part.

But the graphics turned out rather nice, considering my skills.

I know I should have finished the core gameplay before implementing shadows, but they fit the game so nicely!

Getting ready!

I am of cause in for this LD, being my second one.

Hoping I’ll have fewer problems packaging my game this time, but considering the huge re-factoring of my engine, I’m sure some problem will show it’s ugly face.

But that is certainly part of the fun :)

I’m joining the compo and hoping for a theme, that will allow some kind of minimalistic graphics and a nice ambient theme.

Engine: LDK 0.2 (Homebrewed and quite a mess at the time)

IDE: IntelliJ IDEA

Graphics: Gimp or in-engine vector drawing.

Music: Experimenting with DroneFX, but not quite sure yet!

Good luck to all fellow participants!

Progress! And a name!

The game now have a name: Stealther, The great heist. I know that the title screen is not the prettiest, but compared to my previous games, I think it is pretty good.

The sound is in place, the graphics is nearly done.

Now the game only need some levels (oh god)!

Had to go with autotracker for the music. It is awful, but better than anything I can make.

Oh and the game contains a goat now! But its specific location will not be disclosed yet.

Not to impressed by the amount of work I manage to do today, but considering the graphics of my previous games, I think the graphics are pretty good this time. All the basic game mechanics are in place. Now I only need to do alot of level design. For the music I composed a bit, but it sounded awful, so I might just go with some autotracker…

Progress (Kinda….)

You are the villain?

Great theme for massive complex games like something dungeon keepish.

But that is way to complex for 48 hours. So instead I’m going for a simple stealth game. Got the basic collisions working, and the graphics aren’t that bad.

Next up is adding AI!

I’m in for my first true Ludum Dare. (Only participated in a MiniLD before)

Exited as hell!

I’m joining the compo and hoping for a good theme. Most of them seems good!

(Don’t ask about the book. It is older than me!)

Engine: LDK (Homebrewed)

IDE: Eclipse

Graphics: Gimp

Music: Autotracker.py or Otomata depending on the theme.

Other: Xchat for random socialising and Youtube for awesome unlimited music
