plash is in… maybe!

I have no idea what I’m going to do if ☃ wins. I’m not very excited. If I manage to have an idea, this would be my fourth Ludum Dare overall.

Tools

I’ll be using:

  • Sublime Text 2 and vim for editing code.
  • git for source control.
  • LÖVE for framework (with basecode).
  • GIMP for general graphics & editing, GrafX2 for pixel art, and MyPaint for other art.
  • Ardour (with my AT2035 mic & Focusrite Scarlett 2i4) and SunVox for sound and music.

Here’s my basecode repo. It’s CC-3.0 Unported, so feel free to use it! I am again using rxi’s lurker and lovebird libraries.

This will be my third Ludum Dare overall. I made Prisma for LD #26 and dropped out of LD #28 because I didn’t like the theme (which I would’ve been subsequently interrupted from anyhow).

I’m currently in California with only a laptop of limited memory capacity, so I won’t be streaming. I’ll be attending Apportable’s meetup in San Francisco for at least the first night.

Tools

I’ll be using:

  • Sublime Text 2 for editing code.
  • LÖVE for framework (with basecode).
  • GIMP for general graphics & editing.
  • GrafX2 for pixel art.
  • MyPaint for other art.
  • bfxr and SunVox for sound.
  • Bosca Ceoil and/or SunVox for music.
  • Ardour with my AT2035 mic & Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 preamp for recording audio.

Here’s my basecode repo. It’s CC-3.0 Unported, so feel free to use it! I’ve updated it to use rxi’s lurker and lovebird libraries this time around. Hot-swapping should make iteration a lot more rapid.

plash is in (for a second time)!

Second LD for me. Hopefully the theme has nothing to do with minimalism this time.

Tools

I’ll be using:

  • LÖVE for framework (with basecode building on top).
  • GIMP for pixel & general art.
  • MyPaint for non-pixel art (possibly).
  • bfxr for sound (falling back to sfxr if something terrible happens with Adobe Air).
  • Bosca Ceoil for music (this is going to be a glorious disaster).

Here’s my basecode repo (declaring at commit 7aec3c8e08). It’s CC-3.0 Unported, so feel free to use it!

Streamtastic!

I’ll be time-lapsing AND streaming! My Twitch channel is hereabouts. Watch me fail to come up with an idea. I’ll probably end up tweeting some manner of nonsense, too.

Might be in, might be out!

If the theme is enticing enough, I’ll take a jab at it. I’ll use LÖVE and this as I did during LD26.

Prisma R2 – Jam edition

Because I missed the submission deadline for the Compo, I decided to work on an R2 to fix some things.

I reworked & moved around a few levels, and added a world selector at the end of the game.

I updated the entry with the new build, so here’s that again.

Going to build & upbloat timelapse video later tonight, if I have the time.

EDIT: Here is the timelapse!

Finished! Meet Prisma.

EDIT: I made an R2 with the hours remaining in the Jam.

EDIT 2: Here is the timelapse!

Achievement get! Completed first Ludum Dare.

The thingy

Prisma is a color channel-based puzzler.

I didn’t get as many levels in as I wanted to, but I’m fairly happy with it. I had plans for a lot of different triggers, but didn’t have enough time to put them in (probably a good thing, considering the theme is minimalism). This is my first experience with LÖVE, and my first huge anything written in Lua, so I had a few things to shove in my brain.

I also apparently missed the submission deadline for the Compo. I did not realize that was so strict. Anyhow, here’s the entry itself. I worked on it for roughly 34 hours.

Downbloat!

For Windows, just extract and run prisma_r1.exe. Hopefully the world doesn’t blow up.

You will need LÖVE 8.0 on Linux, though it might also work with 9.0 — I haven’t tried. Run love prisma_r1.love, and it should just magically work.

No Mac build yet, sorry! It should be easy to run the .love if you have a LÖVE 8.0 build. Stay tuned.

EDIT: Check out the entry page for links (linked at the top of this post). R1 has a bad README for you Windows users out there, so if you actually want to read it, it’s fixed this time for sure, probably, I hope. Windows needs to get with the times and adopt UTF-8.

Controls

  • Move: arrow keys
  • Action: space

Other stuff!

I streamed & timelapsed the whole she-bang. Videos from the stream can be found here. I’ll have the timelapse up on YouTube soon.

If you find something horribly wrong (excluding the “boss level”), yell at my Twitter: @komiga.

Now I am going to sleep for weeks.

First Ludum Dare! Woohoo!

Tools

I’ll be using:

  • LÖVE for framework (with basecode building on top).
  • GIMP for pixel & general art.
  • MyPaint for non-pixel art (possibly).
  • bfxr for sound (falling back to sfxr if something terrible happens with Adobe Air).
  • And nothing for music! Don’t know what to do about that.

Still working on basecode. I’m planning on declaring around ~4hr before the Compo starts. Might have to overflow into the Jam if life gets in the way, but it’s looking up so far! Here’s my basecode repo. It’s CC-3.0 Unported, so feel free to use it!

Streamtastic!

I’ll be time-lapsing AND streaming! My Twitch channel is hereabouts. It’ll be a disaster! I’ll probably end up tweeting some manner of nonsense, too.

Declaration edit

Declaring at commit 86dc6389f4. It’s wrong, all wrong! But I’ll figure it out.
