So what would be the insane thing todo this Ludum Dare?
What about a terminal game SSH stlye?
So yeah I'm making a GoLang server game where everyone
logs into one box and plays together... whatever the game may end up being.

Yeah I’m going to be using GoLang to write the game in, and people will need to SSH into it.
I may look into a web terminal if I have time before the compo starts.

Junk Collector is kinda Junk

Quick Video demo and mini-post mortem

I wrote a fuller post mortem on my site here: http://flammablepenguins.com/blog/2015/12/ld34/

So Junk Collector was very important jam for me. I’ve been doing LDJam for a while and when I started we all were doing C++ on pretty barebones frames like SDL. Over time as I took part less things like Unity rose to popularity and I started doing more jams in complete engines like that. This time I flipped back to C++ using a very much in development engine, Psybrus from Neilogd, which while fully featured in many ways is friendly and open to me hacking away at. Also having worked with Neil in the past at our 1st studio I’m familiar with his style.

So Junk collector was a welcome return to C++ jamming for me. During the jam I thought damn it this would be so much quicker in Unity or some such bullshit but when I looked at how I spent my time and wrote the complete post mortem a lot of it was my focus on bullshit like particles or doing things the “correct” way not the fast way and not being critical path enough in my decisions. Which resulted in writing a fullblown sky shader and floor plane, replacing my perfectly functional grid plane and bouncing back and forth on physics or not physics…. well it means the gameplay is near non-existent.

Overall it was a blast and I look forward to using his engine in future Jams and side projects.

Congrats you made it to the end, have some progress gifs

I’m IN!

Probably use Unity. Not sure if 2D or 3D yet but I have a bad history knocking out quick 3D models.

Did a quick 2 hour warm-up on Unity to try the new 2D tools, looks good there an option.

Hero: Post Comp Android Build

Posted by
Tuesday, May 7th, 2013 3:44 pm

So I always conceived Hero as a touch device game. Took a few hours to get Android SDK playing nice on Windows 8 but I built an APK and tested it on my nexus device.

If you want to give it a go download and sideload it.
Disclaimer: Untested on other phones, Unity so should be dandy but not tested

Let me know what you think. I was playing around with the idea of expanding it to a more full mobile title but instead I think I will leave it there and move onto other projects I have on the backburner.

WindowsOS/XWeb

So this weekend the theme was Discovery which really inspired me. The plan was simple.

Build a 3D Spatial Puzzle based on a secret phrase. The phrase is revealed when the person completes the puzzle.

Discovery Idea

I’ve got an idea that I LOVE!!!

Discover a hidden message by reconstructing the broken pieces of a spatial puzzle which is generated from the message.

Hi All,

Just saying I will definitely be entering. Going to be using Unity3D. Still not fully comfortably with it but going to keep trying. I will be going the guys at CB2 in Cambridge for my first live Jam which should be fun.

Cheers,

Claire

Making some good progress at the moment. The main problem is the room and zone detection.

Once thats done I’ll move onto connections then I can slab the exploration and combat in.

Also planning to use marching squares style pass to clean things up. Though TBH I quite like the roughness.

Progress but room detection is broken
