Time Limit

The world must hate me. My internet crashed right at the submission hour and it only just came back up. I don’t know if I’ll be able to upload it in time with my current internet speed….

IRC

As per usual, I went to go check up on the IRC a couple of days before the Dare begins. And… it’s down.

Does anyone know the reason for this?

I’m In

Who knows how well this Dare will turn out for me. The last two seem to have limited me time wise. But this time I have more hands on deck. So hopefully things will go well.

I hope to see all of the great games people make at the end of the Dare.

A Question

I have a… curiosity I’d like to settle.

I am making a game using the RPG Maker as per usual, and as such, my visual sprites are either Generated using the Character Generator or taken from the base collection. Now in this instance I can understand not including visuals to be judged.

However, the audio is the thing I’m having the most trouble with. The music and sound effects are things that either came with the program, or I bought for the program. Now, if it was just that I wouldn’t include audio. However, I also plan to include voice acting in my game. Which would be made within the next 20 hours (well more like 12 but whatever). As such I don’t know whether to include audio in the judging, while adding a disclaimer saying “The judgement is not for the Game Music or sound effects, but for the voice acting.”

What do you guys think?

The Creator Returns

Hey everyone. Oborin’s back for another round.

I don’t know how, but Ludum Dare always seems to sneak up on me. I always tell myself I am prepared for anything that Ludum Dare throws at me. Except, apparently for Ludum Dare itself! I looked at my calendar and it was less then a week away.

I must say I really enjoyed the last Dares theme of One Room. I honestly don’t know why people were so bothered by it. It was a good theme that forced people to abide by a specific rules. I personally think it separated the creative ones from everyone else. The creative ones worked with what they had while the rest sort of complained that they couldn’t use there idea’s. If you can’t use an idea, make one. The fact that people are still so worked up about it actually makes me feeler stronger about that particular theme and the fact that I’d be willing to do it again in a heartbeat.

However, that said, I am really liking a lot of the themes this time around too. I hope its something that forces me to think a little like the last one did. It’s no fun if you’re just allowed to run rampant. I mean, yes it can be fun. But it if it doesn’t stretch your creativity at least a little, or force you out of your comfort zone it’s no fun!

So let’s all have a good time regardless of the final theme and just do our best.

Also for those who may have taken offence to my statement about the division between the creative ones and everyone else, I am merely stating my opinion, so I apologize for any offense I may have caused. But I do stand by my opinion.

Anyway, I’m in. I only have a day, but I’ll do my best!

I decided to do some streaming of my post compo work. I’ll probably move on to playing and rating compo games later tonight as well.

You can watch it here

I decided to finally take the plunge and stream some games.

Since I run Windows, I can only stream Windows games and some web games. Feel free to come visit and post your game in the chat.

Stream Here!

I managed to finish something!

I learned from my mistake last time. And didn’t take an idea that was too big, the theme really helped me with that. And I actually finished the idea. I didn’t actually polish the game as much as I wish I had but work got in the way. Reguardless, this is the result of the work I managed to put in. A small, somewhat confusing game with “three” endings called “The Room”.

I made a post saying I was in before, but after seeing all of these other posts I thought I’d update it.

I’m in the Jam again this time, I’m going to be participating with some friends of mine and might stream at least some of my work, presuming I can get it to work. And I’ll be using the RPG maker.

My Second Dare

This is my second entry into Ludum Dare. The first time I entered was the last competition Ludum Dare 30.

However, while many of the things that happened last time are still the same, my lack of perperation and time, I feel that I actually have a better shot at this now that I know what to expect. So I’m going to jump into this competition head first and go down swinging, and have fun all the while.

I… I made it…

This has nothing to do with my game…

BUT I MADE IT. I actually made it. I’m shocked… I never get anything done on time… well… if you consider this anything… XD

But it’s a start! And it’s something I enjoyed doing. I honestly never would have thought of it without Ludumdare.. I’ve said that so often… and I owe Vallar so much thanks for telling me about it and dealing with my stress… and I also owe Najath far more credit then I could possibly ever give him. But he refuses to accept it. So I will settle for thank him for doing the art on Zero notice.

The Web of Endings, started off as such a basic game I was certain I could finish it in the 4 hours I had… but the moment I sat down to work on it, it exploded outward like idea’s are so famous for doing. And the result was a game I can probably work on for the next several months, even if I kept up this pace. An unlimited number of endings and possibilities based on every choice you make in the game, whether you get a bad ending or not. It’s a game I’ve wanted to make for a long time, but never actually had any idea of how to make it. So I’d like to thank all of you at ludum dare and those of you who participate in Ludum Dare for sending my friend Vallar my way, cause i know he’s getting sick of me. And all these thanks seem like they are getting redundant so I will now put a cork in it… and just say. Thank you. And I hope you enjoy my game… as brief and unfinished as it may be.

Can I still make it?

I don’t know! But so long as that “Submission Hour” is an actual Submission hour and not there to taunt me! I can still make it!

This isn’t good for my health! I’m almost done uploading it. it took way to long to compress….

WAY TO STRESSFUL

Under Maintenance

So in the short time I was able to work, I was actually able to make something that resembles a game, plays like a game, is only a few minutes long, and is hardly even close to the game I wanted to make… BUT IT’S SOMETHING.

Unfortunately there are a few to many of these V

For my liking. But what can you do? I did my best! And with the time I had I’m satisfied. It’s not like this is the end of this game. I plan to put many more hours into it, and include far more endings and gameplay elements then what will be displayed in the version that I post here, so I’m very thankful to Ludum Dare. And to my good friend Vallar who showed me this competition…

Afterthoughts…

>_> EVEN IF HE COULD HAVE GIVEN ME A LITTLE MORE WARNING. But I can’t complain.

Now I’m just rambling while the game compresses. This is what my life has become over the last 2 days. Rambling and game creation. Well… that’s what it was before. But I didn’t actually have anything to show for it before. Now I do…

Okay… now to hit publish… But… well… the compressions only half done… Seriously… how long does it take for a 5 minute game to compress… I shudder to think of how long it’ll take the final perfected version to compress… if there is such a thing as a final perfected version.

Anyway, that’s enough on my end. I did what i wanted to do. All I have to do now is submit it.

Thank you Vallar and Ludum Dare for giving me such a harsh deadline to do SOMETHING by.

Game of Endings

So I initially planned on entering the 48 hour tournament… but then I found out about the limitations on art and music and other such things. The fact that I had to make all that myself threw a bit of ¬†wrench in my plans. So I thought I’d jump on board the 72 hour jam.

However, right now, I don’t even care about it. The game I’m making is a bit more complicated then I had originally intended and I don’t know if I’ll actually make it to submission, but I’m going to try my best.

It is, as the title above suggests, a game about endings. Where the choices you make as a player affect the perspectives of the NPC’s you control. And as the perspectives change, the world itself changes. The choices you make can lead to any number of endings. Both good and bad. And some endings even affect other endings. There’s no way to know for sure. But this is the kind of game I want to make, and even if I can’t make it to submission, I hope I can finish it soon.

Thanks Ludum for giving me a different perspective for a new game.

Good Night Everyone

I’m trying. I really am. But I started working a day late, and I only have 4 hours to actually make the game, thanks to work.

I wonder if I’ll make it in time… I have the story and everything planned out, it’s just a matter of can I make it in time.

Oh well, whats the worst that could happen? Try fail, try again next time. Or at the very least post a… demo version.

Is that even allowed? that sounds quite appealing at this point.
