I made a census!

So, since somebody on IRC had the wonderful idea, I made a census. It’s short, 10 questions, nothing too personal. It would provide some insight into the LD Community as well, so if you could take it that would be awesome. And here’s a link to it: LD Census

It’s up. It’s all the windows links I could download, it’s just under 650MB, and it’s just windows games. Source if the games included it, otherwise just the game. Organized into folders labeled as such:

<creator> – <name>

eg:

demize – Horrible LD17 Game

Download it, hope you can get it because my connection is crap for uploading, and then rejoice as you SEED IT. SEED IT. and then SEED IT some more so everybody can have it 😀

EDIT: Some games may have bugfixes, for example pubby8’s game, Island Guns. This torrent should be fairly recent and stable, but if you experience any problems check the game’s page for bugfixes.

EDIT 2: Please be patient and download this. I’m initial seeding right now to get the initial distribution done as fast as possible, but my up speed seems to be less than 20kb/s. It’ll be done within the next day or so probably, then it’ll all be in the wild as long as you stay on. If you’re the only person with a piece and you stop seeding that piece, nobody can get it. So, please be patient and download it, and wait until there are a few seeds to stop downloading and just download them all yourself.

I am working on making a torrent of all the windows versions of the LD17 games. It will be awesome, and I have to do it all by hand, so bear with me. It’ll be done by the end of today though, I promise!

It’s horrible. But I’ll be making a high score table that records your scores without you ever knowing whose is whose :p I’ll post the source here when I make it, in a new blog post. I expect -1s from all of you in all my categories!

No idea what I’ll be using, probably Code::Blocks and some random library. Probably either Allegro or SDL. If I really run out of time, I’ll use Game Maker, but the thought of doing that makes me sick (evil thing with archaic dx8).

I’ve uploaded an entry. I’m not linking here yet, because I’m planning on making it better, but it’s uploaded. Right now, I’m totally stuck – I’ve got code to switch to a new level, but it doesn’t work. I can’t figure out why it won’t, either. I’ve been asking on IRC, but haven’t gotten a response, so unless I find out what’s wrong, I don’t get a better entry.

Well, i now have a J that moves around like The Flash and an @ sign that you move around. I’m implementing PoV’s timer code, too, but I haven’t yet. There’s also a little bit of dialouge at the beginning of the game. No screenshot yet, though.

I’m tired.

Well, looks like I might get a game done.  It’s going to be command line, that’s all I’ll reveal right now. Windows only, too :(. I wanted to make it Mac and Linux too, but it won’t happen. I don’t mind though, it’ll be a cool game.

I’d love to take part in LD15, but I currently have no Dev tools on my computer…. If I can install some and all that crap, I can take part, but I probably won’t be, so don’t expect an entry this time. I do have some ideas for Caverns though.

I used Senocular’s KeyObject Class for the key presses, FYI.

Game with or without sources? (EDIT: Or in a page, with it the right size, etc?)

Rather simple game, just use the up and down arrow keys to move, and avoid the rectangles that are coming for you. You have 5 lives. You are the circle. The game gets rather hard pretty quickly too, so post your scores! You get one point for each ‘wall’ you sucessfully avoid.

Now it’s going to be using Flash CS3 for everything. I just hope that I can learn Flash and make a game in the next day or so, all while listening to Pennywise :P.

Filled with crap, it’s my desk. The CDs by my Laptop are, from lrft to right, Guns N’ Roses: Use Your Illusion II, Pennywise: About Time, and Pennywise: Full Circle. The Pennywise are there because I’m seeing The Offspring in Toronto with Pennywise opening.

So, I didn’t get anything done last time. I’m hoping to this time, if I can think of something for the theme that hasn’t been announced yet :P. I’ll be making a really simple game with Torque Game Builder, so that I can learn to use it. But, I probably won’t get something done with that, and be forced to make a really quick game with something else.

Planned tools:

  • TGB for making the game
  • Paint.NET for graphics
  • That’s all!
