This weekend, I made a game.

Even if my wife is 39 week pregnant and my two boys were asking for daddy.

I love making games and they loved to play them !
I really look to the date they will be able to participate with me.

My game is a Lemmings-like that I wanted to build 2 years ago when I started learning to build games.
It was my first formal GDD.

Try it and tell me what you think of it !

Congrats to all the other gamedev, I will play as many games as possible !

Qp – Post-mortem of my 5th LD48

Hi all,

I really enjoyed this LD !

Our team tried something new this time, a 2d game.

Mandatory link : Qp : Fix the leak

The theme gave us a lot of inspiration and I think we found a good variation.

Our game is a 2d physics game where you have to put a cap on a oil leak on the ocean floor.
While going deeper and deeper, you have to avoid hitting the wall or the cap will be destroyed and you need to start again.

We also used a new tool : AutoTileGen, that was on an indiegogo campaign not long ago. It was really useful to build the level with good light in no time. You can get more info at : http://autotilegen.com/

Now the pros and cons:

Pros:

  • After many LD and other game, we know Unity3d quite well now and we were able to do all the logic without much problem.
  • The graphic art were easy to find and to adapt (mostly from opengameart.org)
  • Our audio composer is super good ! He made an awesome soundtrack for the game
  • We got really good support from AutoTileGen developer when we got issues with the tool. Thanks @javicepa.
  • We used Trello for tasking and it when really well. We will continue to use it for next LD and gamedev.

Cons:

  • We got a lot of issues with BitBucket and Git, mainly because we didn’t use it outside of LD and we are still noob to it.
  • We didn’t have enough time to create more levels (only one was made).

TL;DR: We had a great weekend and we will be back in august ! Thanks LD team for this awesome event !

Also, thanks to the other dev of my team : ElStevo and Francois Bilodeau !

PS: if you want to see the progression of the team, see the others LD game :

  1. LD25 – The Corrupt (first game)
  2. LD26 – MiniMemory (made alone)
  3. LD27 – Get out !
  4. LD28 – Save the keg
  5. LD29 – Qp

Wow, I just submit my game 4 minutes before the end…

One day, I will learn that I have to check if GitHub or Dropbox works before the end…
