My game could really use a lot more content, but I’m really starting to fade, so I went ahead and submitted. There’s an outside chance that jump back on this afternoon and add some more dialogue, but it’s complete enough to let it be if that’s what happens. Anyway, I’m not super happy with the quality of my entry, but if felt great to finally finish something again! I know that was a glowing review, haha, so if you’re interested in checking it out, the link is here.

I’m in. Using the usual stuff like Unity (C#), Paint.Net, Garage Band, etc.

All done!

There’s so much more I could have done, but I’m pretty fried so far. I made city builder (possibly the only one for this theme?). As always, I’m not sure if it’s good or terrible, but please play it if you’re so inclined!

Play Tetropolis!

I’m in, btw.

Took me a super long time to come up with an idea I liked, but things are moving at an ok clip today. I don’t really have anything pretty or fun yet, but most of the guts of my city builder are made. Basically you place tetromino shaped road pieces to try and create regions, which are determined by the shape you create. You only get more roads to place if you’re creating the types of regions the city needs. Can’t decide if the game should be called Tetronimopolis or just Tetropolis. Anywho, here’s an early screenshot (don’t worry, there will be some real graphics later ;))

And I actually have a reasonable internet connection this time around, so maybe I’ll try some streaming? As someone who’s never really streamed anything, could someone point me in the direction of a guide to getting set up or something?

All Finished!

I just uploaded my competition entry: “The Vacuum of Space”! I still want to explore some more platforms later on, but for now, I’ve got a Windows and Web build up, so I’m going to try and get some rest. Please leave a comment if you decide to play my game!

First Real Progress Update

So far I have a fun (soundless) toy, but not really a game. Now to turn these pieces in to something with a little more direction. For now, enjoy a gif! (I think you might have to click it to see motion, I’m not great at the posts…)

Basic Chaos

13 Hours in, and I think I finally have an idea!

It’s not original really, but it’s time to work. I think I normally spend more time thinking about what to do than most people, since I intentionally avoid knowing what the potential themes are going in, but this is by far the most time I’ve taken without coding, arting, or songing. Hopefully the pressure will do me good!

I’m super stumped.

Fine, I’ll do it.

I’m in again this time. Not sure what tools I’ll be using, but I’ll¬†likely work out of Unity or Gamemaker unless something crazy happens.

2 Hours in: Concept, Map Generation, and Movement

Posted by (twitter: @joshuahriley)
Friday, April 17th, 2015 10:21 pm

The theme wasn’t super inspiring to me, but I have a concept that I like that at least sort of fits it. Anyway, I’ve got random map generation (not really) and player movement knocked out, so hopefully I can have all of the primary game functions done by mid day tomorrow (It’s 11pm here). Anyway, you can click the image for the first progress gif:

Just Checking in

Just realized I hadn’t posted a single update since we started, so I figured I’d take a minute to share what I’ve been doing. I actually had a super productive night (Started at 8pm local time), and had a fully playable game before going to bed. Then I woke up, realized it wasn’t fun, and started from scratch, haha. I’ve wrestled with some nasty bugs and minor motherboard failure, but I think things are coming along ok. I ‘ve got a built fully playable through 5 levels, with sound, menus, etc. You’re welcome to check it out if you’d like, but the levels I’ve done are basically a tutorial, so don’t expect anything super challenging. I’ve missed the last two, but I’ve been more proactive in clearing out my schedule so I should definitely be in this time. I haven’t released a game in over a year, so I’m super excited to have something complete in a few days!

I’ll be using Unity, Paint.net, bfxr and some other stuff probably.

Done!
