My First LD: Tim’s Bad Day

I had a lot of fun during MiniLD 58 last month and produced Containment. This, though, was my first proper LD, and my first real attempt at producing a game from scratch in just a couple of days.  Tim’s Bad Day is a sort-of parody-survival game in which you are tasked with defending Tim from an encroaching army of spiders. My inspiration came from the idea of using light as a weapon, and spiders seemed like an obvious enemy.

I had a lot of fun producing this game. My main tasks initially involved dealing with vectors and trigonometry to get the spiders to move correctly, but after that I at least had a working game, so could spend more time on the graphics and sounds, which I thoroughly enjoyed producing!

I’ve only been making games since the start of March, and have been following the Complete Unity Developer course on Udemy. It’s given me a great insight into using Unity, although I still haven’t really ventured that far into 3D game development, so I’m sure that there’s so much more that I will be able to do with Unity for future compos.
