After a quick nap I’m back to work. I’ve decided to go with a zombie apocalypse survival game but with zombie unicorns, and you have a unicycle for transportation and your only weapon… Still streaming my progress at: http://www.twitch.tv/jogy34_

Trying the ‘Live Streaming’ thing this time

Well, overall I like the theme. I feel like I can do a lot with this. Also, I’m trying live streaming for the first time this Ludum Dare so if anyone feels like watching me code you can find it here: http://www.twitch.tv/jogy34_

Almost forgot, I’m in

I almost forgot to make a post saying I’m in for Ludum Dare 32. This will be my 7th time competing and I will be entering in the 48 hour compo. Now for my tools.

Language: Java

IDE: Eclipse

Art: Photoshop

Sound: Audacity and http://abundant-music.com/

I will also be using my own game framework which can be found here: https://bitbucket.org/Jogy34/xerngameengine (2D) or here: https://bitbucket.org/Jogy34/xern-lwjgl-game-engine (3D with LWJGL)

I’m in once again

I’m in for the LD30 48 hour compo. This will be my sixth time competing, fifth time doing the 48 hour compo.

So here’s my list of stuff I will be using:

Platform: Java with Eclipse IDE

Graphics: Photoshop CS5

Sounds/Music: http://abundant-music.com/ and Audacity

I will also be using my own game framework. If I decide to do this in 2D I will be using this: https://bitbucket.org/Jogy34/xerngameengine and If I end up using 3D I will be using LWJGL along with this: https://bitbucket.org/Jogy34/xern-lwjgl-game-engine

I’m in once again

I’m in for the LD30 48 hour compo. This will be my fifth time competing, fourth time doing the 48 hour compo. I was disappointed that I wasn’t able to join in on the last one because I had a competition to go to during that time frame and my team was counting on me.

So here’s my list of stuff I will be using:

Platform: Java with Eclipse IDE

Graphics: Photoshop CS5

Sounds/music: http://abundant-music.com/ and Audacity

I will also be using my own Java game engine/framework that can be found here: https://bitbucket.org/Jogy34/xerngameengine/src. I’ve recently modified it to allow Java applets so I will be trying to host the game on a website (bitbucket based webpage) along with as a stand alone application.

Also, can’t forget this:

Count me in

Looking forward to another LD. This will be my fourth one.

I will be using Phothshop CS5 for art, the Eclipse IDE with Java, My own open source game engine/framework which can be found here, and for music I will try to use This Thing and possibly something else to edit and record sounds. I will also be using BitBucket as a git repo.

19 Hours to go and almost done

I was going to post on my progress at 24 hours left but I ended up being busy with stuff I didn’t want to do that didn’t have anything to do with my game and lost an hour or two then got distracted with fixing bugs.

Anyways, I’ve got pretty much all of my needed game functionality done except for an actual objective, basic story line, and instructions page. That all I should be able to complete in an hour or two, after that it’s just making my game pretty and adding more things. Here’s a few screen shots of what I have right now:

Top Left: Start Screen
Top Right: Planet Select screen with Deith highlighted
Bottom Left: Planet Region (level) select screen with a region highlighted
Bottom Right: Basic Game play

The premiss of my game is that 10 seconds were physically stolen from Deith (an earth-like planet). They were the most important 10 seconds in  the planet’s history (probably going to be when life was first created). You take the role of a space traveller with an advanced blue box for a space ship that just happened to watch the time being stolen which you then proceeded to destroy what was stealing the time. When you destroyed the thing that was stealing the time, all of it was dispersed and landed all over the solar system. You have to go to each planet to retriever the 10 seconds.

I’m really happy with how the planetary selection and planet region selection screens came out, they work perfectly. I finally got all of the collisions situated the best I’m going to be able to in the time left. To create the levels I’m using a custom structure based generator. Each planet will have its own tile map so although the structure of each structure will look the same the appearance will be altered. I could use a lot more structures but that’s something I’m going to add to when I’m stuck on something or I finish everything that’s above it on the list. Since I hate creating art for a character (I’m not a good artist as I’m sure you can tell) I’ll probably just make the character sprite (currently the black box in the screen shot) a fancy blue box (your space ship). I have no sounds currently but I have no way to make them so I’ll probably end up going to freesound.org for my sounds. I would much prefer to make my own sounds though so if anyone knows any free sound creation software for linux ubuntu then please let me know.

One last thing, my good laptop broke on me a few weeks ago so I’m using my bad laptop to code and it can barely create a JVM so I have no clue what the actual speed of my game and character are, for me it’s excruciatingly slow.

Also, probably going to try to pull an all nighter. I tried yesterday but ended up going to sleep when I go frustrated at 3:30 in the morning.

4.5 Hours in and going great

After I had found out what the theme was I started a brainstorming session and after about half an hour I had come up with a fantastic idea on how to use the theme (which I’m not going to currently reveal). Currently the coding is going decently. I have a good menu/button system set up and my art is looking a lot better than it usually ever does (I’m by no means an artist). I am currently getting a planet system  going with each planet having multiple platform side scroll levels that will utilize random structure based terrain generation (because I hate manually mapping out levels).

This is my current solar system:

I’ve got Deith (this highlighted earth like one), Tredjin (the orange and brown one), and Moog (the small blueish one). As this will probably confuse anyone with what it has to do with the theme, the 10 seconds will be spread out across all of the planets.

I’m going to attempt to pull an all nighter to work on this a lot more.

Almost forgot

I almost forgot, I will be using my own game engine/framework this time. Here it is so it’s availiable to the public in case I do end up submitting for he 48 hour compo.

LD 27 I’m in

Alright I’m hopefully going to be able to participate in LD 27. My good laptop (which is what I code on) is broken (it keeps physically breaking its hard drives) so I’m using me backup which is really slow and dreadful to code on but manageable. It’s running on ubuntu so I’m not all that used to the environment but it shouldn’t be too hard. Because my current laptop sucks though I will be doing the 72 hour jam.

This will be my third LD (fifth if you count mini LD’s)

My arsenal:

Language: Java – Eclipse IDE, 2D Graphics

Art: Gimp

Music: No creator as I can’t find any free one for linux but I might use some of my sounds and music from previous games if I can find any of those.

Got all main functionality done

I got the theme then got the idea to do a virus based game where you are the virus and you have to kill your host before your host kills you. I got the virus rotation worked out and a fairly good pic of the virus. I think it’s one of my better pictures.Virus Rotation

Now to start working on the goal of the game.
