Just so you guys know….

I think I will make something havily focused on music/sound this time, of course if the theme allows.

  • JUCE (C++11 framework)
  • Pixen or generate geometry for art
  • Ableton Live for Music

Have fun all!

Finally made built the Windows version

I managed to squeeze out a suprisingly fun  game last weekend, but until now didn’t manage to built it on Windows.

Framework: C++11 -> JUCE library

Every asset is generated so no other tools were necessary.

You can play it here: There’s Always a Bigger…

The Qi Disciple

I will make a bigger post later on. Just wanted to share this with you guys. Now for some well deserved rest…. :)

Looking for playtesters

I have three levels up and running, and I was wondering if anyone wants to give me some feedback on it. Is it clear what you can do, what the weapon twist is, is it too easy, too hard. All art of course is temporary.

Penguin Feeder Simulator 2000 gameplay and timelapse

In good LD tradition I recorded a time lapse which one could view here:

Also I created a little .gif with some gameplay, so all of you can enjoy my beautiful and attractive artwork:

I hope to also create a Post Mortem sometime, but until then you can still play and rate my game here

And of course every penguin needs to get one fish.

One hour in

I’m now a little bit over one hour in. I already figured I will be making a Penguin Feeder Simulation and got the first (and probaly final) art of the penguins done.

Now I will work on penguin AI (!) and then on the gameplay. I only have time to day so for me it will be a ~14H gamejam. But this was also the case last two times I joined LD so I think I will manage to finish. Hope it will be fun though.

Good luck everybody else

I too, am in

Yes, last week I also decide to join in again. This will be the third time, after skipping last LD.

A quick google search led me to believe I will be the first one to declare using the JUCE C++ framework. I will be typing my code in XCode, and compling for OSX and Windows. Web is still not my cup of tea, so with those to platforms I hope to still reach a lot of people.

As last time I will set some personal goals. This time I will either focus on interactive sound/music or AI, depending on the theme. So maybe a music game, an abstract atmospheric thing, or something with self “thinking” agents as computer opponents…. Graphics are still not my strong point so I am not going to waste much time with that, and target a high score in either Audio or Innovation. Beating my top Overall score of 3.34 would also be nice.

Code: JUCE, XCode
Graphics: Pixen, GIMP, pen/paper/camera, Generative
Audio: Audacity, Ableton Live, Field Recorder, Generative
Timelapse: Own bash scipt

Oh and just as last times, I will be only working on it on saturday, so its a ~14hr game jam for me again.

Good luck all!!

Tips needed from OSX users

Hi LD’ers,

For last time I wrote a bash script that takes a screenshot every couple of seconds, so that I can create a timelapse. But in some timelapses from others I see a webcam screen somewhere in the bottom. I think this adds a nice touch. Is there anyone using OSX who can give me advice of how to accomplish an always on top screen with the feed from my iSight?

Much apreciated!

OIA 0.14 : gameplay

Yes it’s a familiar color scheme, but enjoy some still cryptic game play, I am now trying to create a good tutorial/selfexplaining curve in levels

Oh yeah, there is sound also but it’s bad so i muted it 😛

OIA : Progress

OIA is going to be a puzzle about using the least amount of tiles possible, with a color scheme very unorigaly stolen from Mondrian (whose vowels als give name to my game). I made a nice level loader so i can create levels as images, and now I am going to implement the targets and pray its a fun game mechanic, the comes sound (gonna make some minimal music, if possible dependant on the state of the puzzle), and then finally make it more visualy pleasing, make a start screen, design levels, man I have a lot to do, did I mension I only have the saturday available?

I’m in for the 2nd time

Hi all!

Next weekend I will be joining you all for the second time. Last time it went way better then expected with very high on humor and audio (audio should be my expertise since I am a music technology student, and not a game designer by trade). But not very high on theme, graphics, overall, and fun, which of course all make a game good and fun so that should be improved.

#20 Humor 3.89
#77 Audio 3.37
#138 Innovation 3.40
#211 Mood 3.08
#358 Fun 2.85
#429 Overall 2.85
#481 Graphics 2.67
#579 Theme 2.67

For this time I have some goals set:

  1. My game should run in a browser, to make it more accesible
  2. I want to focus even more on music/audio
  3. It should have more variation
  4. I want an original idea, not a standard platformer or RPG (maybe a puzzle or simulation kind of game if the theme allows it)

Tools I will be using:

  • LibGDX for coding (deployment to OSX/Win/Linux (Java), Android, and most important: Web)
  • Pixen/Pen&Paper/Photocamara or something else starting with a P for art (not my strongest point)
  • Ableton, Audacity, MilkyTracker, fieldrecorder, live instruments for sound/music
  • and a hand made bash script for a timelapse of my screen

I will probably not work the full 48 hours, but as the last time showed I will in every case turn in a playable product.

Have fun all!
