All set. Ready to go. Almost…! Tossing up between Haxe/Flambe and Java/Libgdx as each have their strong points. Coffee has been imbibed. Good luck to all involved!

I’m out. Lesson learned: he who is prepared has won half the battle.

I started this LD in an unprepared frenzy and suffered for it, as a result nothing near-playable to submit at this point. Been a year since I last jammed, bit rusty. Misprioritised. Endless software issues. Idea too big. Start simpler next time and iterate. Upside: I’ll be finishing it as a post-jam project over the Christmas break.

    Hey

Joining in on the fun once again. I think it’s been more than a year since my last real LD. I’m going to be using libgdx, inkscape, audacity, sibelius, bfxr, midi keyboard, electric and acoustic guitar. Good luck to all!

    I’m out…

I thought I’d be in, but other commitments intervened, too busy with school. I spent 1 hour working on some basic code for a title screen, spent time debugging it to work properly in GWT (HTML5) and then realised I don’t have time to spend figuring out an idea that went beyond some basic mechanic about something evolving.

I take my hat off to everyone who did make something to submit and shall see you either in a mini-ld or the next LD in December with a more open theme hopefully!

    fooooooood

Working on music for my entry… not sure what gameplay is going to be exactly yet! The theme doesn’t lend itself to being thematic in interesting ways, but anyway, let’s see what happens.

    hello ludumdarers!

    This is my 4th LD…
I’ll either be using libgdx or futile, inkscape, my classical guitar or electric guitar, a midi keyboard, Sibelius, audacity and my laptop mic.

Caffeine will also be required I think!

Two really cool games to try.

First up is Walker by Catman which is a platformer (no, this one is different trust me!) which has physics and puzzles that keep the adrenaline running in the style of Donkey Kong Country on SNES.

The second game is conceptually simple but I like the idea and the artwork, the image speaks for itself, World in a Bottle by Serilyn:

I started 6 hours ago, I have something broken and incomplete but I really have to sleep due to exams and classes tomorrow. I wish LD could have been a weekend later.

I will get to rating other peoples games as soon as I have some free time.

Disappointed, but still had fun trying to make my entry, a board game.

Alright, I’m in for real now.

This is my second “I’m in” post, the rest of the weekend was spent studying German and Egyptian Hieroglyphs, for exams. I did some initial thinking after the theme was announced and decided to make a board game, so I threw together some code with libgdx to draw some tiles for my board, but beyond that after the theme was announced, I have not started. So here goes.

    My tools of choice:

    Platform: Windows 7, ASUS A53E i7 2630QM, on-chip Intel HD 3000 GPU
    Language/libraries: Java with libgdx.
    Editor: Eclipse
    Version Control: Git
    Graphics: Gimp, Corel Painter, Inkscape
Music: Sibelius, Epiphone Dot Semi-Acoustic Guitar, Korg X50 Synthesizer
Sound Effects: Amateur folio with built-in laptop mic and Audacity.
Organizing: Emacs Org-mode or just a *scratch* buffer
    Focusing: Panic.

Of the games I’ve rated so far, I think this one feels the most complete, serene and balanced in terms of graphics, sound, story and music. If you’re able to play a Windows game, make it this one. It may be simple, but it’s quite a work of art.

coolness factor? 391 people are at 0%

I stumbled upon the coolness factor when rating games, which indicates each LD participant’s % of games rated. LD48 is a community based effort and things don’t stop once you’ve submitted a game. There are games to be rated people!

I downloaded the rating page in html, used emacs to M-x replace-string RET Coolness’ RET Coolness’ C-q C-j RET, piped it through grep ‘0% Coolness’ | wc -l, which reports 391.

391 people out of 891 have not rated any games, which feels like a poor effort. I’ve rated 10% of the games so far. That’s 89 games, my game for the jam has received 31 votes.

    According to the page,

    • the most votes received is Notch at 181 and he has rated no one in return.
    • Cell has rated an impressive 52% of submissions but only received 30 votes
    • Pierrec has rated 26% and has also only received 30 votes
    • Hazard has rated 25% but only received 18 votes

Be a good LD citizen and rate some games!

Post-edit suggestion: some sort of scoring penalty for not rating games?

Hug Monster!- I played this several times before tiring of it, really simple yet really good.

The invention of colour – an interactive side scrolling story with crisp pixel art and drenching audio.

Midas – a heartfelt game that I think matches the theme perfectly!

Alone Together – despite not being challenging and really short, it’s fun to complete

Survive the Desert – an artgame!  unrefined, coarse, gritty… like sand.

If you’d like me to rate your game (and I haven’t already…) feel free to leave a comment or mention on irc.  Feel free to rate my game in return!

went for the jam, would have liked to do more, it was fun anyhow!

    Here’s my submission.

    http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-22/?action=rate&uid=4842

    What went right:

Figured out how to use Eclipse to hotswap code.
Picked a relatively easy art style.
    Completed 1 level.
Made a few pieces of fun music.

    What went wrong:

My weekend wasn’t free to compete in LD, wasn’t around for the first day and the second was a slow start.
Although one level was completed, I forgot to add the soap sud mechanic and the dryer cycle, so the instructions in-game didn’t make 100% sense.
