On the Ludum Dare

Monday, April 17th, 2017 12:28 am

What really puts a downer on any ludum dare competition is when you cannot participate.  Not because you don’t want to, but you need to study for an exam or your job doesn’t count it as a holiday (unfair!).  It is on a weekend, but studying for the AP takes priority.

Besides that, good luck to all that are “in”.  I hope you come up with great ideas, and write indented code.

Photoshop is hard when you don’t own a copy of Photoshop.

I’m out, too

Sunday, August 14th, 2016 11:31 pm

The combination of school starting again, a job, and the just13k game jam has led to the most inconvenient timing I have ever had with a ludum dare :P.  Hopefully next time ^_^.

I might be out.

School starts in a week.  DAMMIT TIMING GODS.

Shout out (MiniLD)

Thursday, August 4th, 2016 3:30 pm

Shout out to ermo, for making probably the largest game in the MiniLD, “Island Warfare”.  It is a really large game, most due to procedural generation, and I really think this would be awesome if it went multiplayer.

Island Warfare: http://ludumdare.com/compo/minild-69/?action=preview&uid=107556

Shout out to KloudRazor for making the, in my opinion, funnest game to play: “Operation Mars”.  This is a team of 2 people who really made a polished game, and a difficult one at that.  Usually you don’t see this unless the game is really buggy, however this game has no bugs/glitches that I am aware of.  My high-score is 18 days survived, comment or tweet at me yours if you want to share it.

Shout-out to Opyate for making the simplest and most elegant game in my opinion: “:isation”.  This game is you turning a cube, and sticking color on it as to get the most area with it.  Although it could use a little more rethinking, or maybe have preset puzzles instead of randomly generated ones (which seem to make the game too easy), the base of the game is still there, and it is solid.

Also shout-out to Wan for making the feedback friends website, it is a very comfortable website to use in my opinion, however I do not know how it will stand up with thousands of games.  In the meantime, it has made the MiniLD a bit more meaningful.  I doubt I would have commented so much if this were not the case.

If you are wondering why I made this post, it’s to point out games I think people should play, even if they are not very interested in the MiniLD.

What a reception!

Monday, August 1st, 2016 3:07 pm

If you have not played my game yet, please play it first (its quick) and then read the following message.  It is intended for the players of “Colonization in a Nutshell”, my (Javabot) submission for the MiniLD.

Once you have found the hidden message, please comment down below new messages, and how they would play out in this game.  Many people have found it, and want alternative endings!  I will probably remake the game using the response!  Also, if you are an artist, preferably pixel, please tell me if you are interested in helping me out in a remake because my art skills are not very great.

As an added bonus, have the messages reference history, or just be funny.

What do you know?

Stop using google drive for zip files!  Dropbox is a much cleaner solution, and drive i like its own system, so you need to unzip it in drive, download it, and maybe even unzip it in the computer.  Pls, stp wit de dreiva nd do di drpbx.

So yeah, finished my compo entry, hopefully going to make a jam entry which just improves on the current game.

It has 10 levels total, and it’s really a simple game of experimenting.  You can play rock, paper, and scissors (represented by colors), and you just have to figure out how to use each.

Have fun, leave a vote or comment, don’t rage quit.

Help me improve this game

Saturday, April 2nd, 2016 2:16 pm

I feel this game has a strong base, potential to become something that it isn’t.  Please play the game and answer the below google survey so that I could take your feedback and program it!  Don’t worry, it’s a short survey: only 2 questions, only one of which is required.

Am I the only guy who’s made a game for Mini Ludum Dare in 2 days?

I’m done

Sunday, March 27th, 2016 9:30 pm

I kind of made a game for the mini ld.  Guess you can go check it out?  It’s all very simple, so don’t expect a ton of game play from it.  It’s called “Dwarf in a Hole”.

The most useful function

Saturday, March 26th, 2016 1:39 pm

I find that this is my most used, most useful function: the simple box collision.

function isCol(thex,they, othx, othy, thel, theh, othl, othh){
return !(they+theh <= othy || they >= othy+othh || thex+thel <= othx || thex >= othx+othl);

All I can think of when I read “I’m in”

Hey guys!

Thursday, March 24th, 2016 7:31 pm

I have started a new business on Fiverr, and my first customer gave me 5 stars!  My Fiverr offers 2 services at the moment, aka I will make 2 things for my customers: a logo or a video game.  That’s right, I have taken my love of Ludum Dare and am trying to turn it into some sort of business!  Feel free to check it out, anytime!

p.s: I hope this does not seem like some sort of uninteresting spam, because it isn’t.  I genuinely hope everyone who sees this can realize I simply love making games, and without money one cannot make said games.

p.p.s: I’m in.

A new idea

Sunday, March 20th, 2016 2:00 pm

I would really like it if Ludum Dare had a way of messaging people.  I recently read colinator27 actually modded my most recent game, and I really want to see what he came up with!  Please implement a messaging feature in this website or a future one.
