About Jan Tuts

I'm a creative jack-of-all-trades. 2D (drawing, photomanip, pixel art, vector art), 3D modelling and animation, as well as game design and programming: I like to do all of it. :D
Sound and music design is something I'd also like to get into in the future.

Aside from Ludum Dare, I’m currently working on a personal mobile game project named “Bounty”. You can follow the project’s progress on it’s dedicated development blog: http://bountyproject.tumblr.com/ (posts will start rolling in soon!)

Didjitalus and I are making a post-apocalyptic, vehicular combat game, currently nicknamed “Baja Beetle Berserkers“!
The entire concept of our game was simply to make a game with the Military Baja Beetje 3D model he is currently working on / nearly finished. I promised him I’d make it drive around and shoot things one day.
I guess that day came sooner than expected! 😀

Our link with the theme is, of course, that in the barren, dystopian future of 2084, all the cars, guns, etc, are considered “ancient technology”.

Our game page is: http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-36/?action=preview&uid=50599

With less than 2.5 hours of voting to go and under the motto of “better late, than never”, I present you with my shortlist of best LD33 games, in no particular order.
Be sure to check them out, and if the voting hasn’t ended by the time you read this: cast your votes! :)

Super Snack Time
A neat art style and a funny view on the lives of the well know Piranha plant.

Nice graphics and a unique and cute concept.

V8000 AD
An excellent example of Mad-Maxian mayhem.

Mobs, Inc
A neatly executed concept with very nice art and animations.

Gojira-Chan no Densetsu
Very cute art and fluid animations, combined with satisfying city-stomping gameplay.

Intergalactic Love Machine
Seriously one of the funniest, unique and polished entries.

And, of course, I end this list with the obligatory shameless promotion of our own entry:

Don’t touch the shredder, Jim.
A short, dark-humoured point-and-click game in a neat hand-drawn art style.

I hope you guys had at least as much fun competing and playing other people’s games as I did.
See you guys next jam!

I’ll be teaming up with Ester Vanhoutte. This is our first Ludum Dare, as well as our first cooperation!
We both have some previous experience with game jams, having both participated as artists in Global Game Jam 2014 and 2015, but in separate teams / locations.
This time around, I’ll mostly be programming and she’ll mostly do the art, sound and music.

We might do a livestream and/or keep a Tumblr devblog.

Our tools

  • Programming: Unity 5.1 (C#)
  • Art: Photoshop / Illustrator / traditional media (pen, watercolour, …)
  • SFX: BFXR / microphone
  • Music: WarioWare D.I.Y. Music Maker / Audacity / variety of free tools / microphone
