My idea is something to do with penguins… :)

Might be in, might not be. I really don’t know :D

I’ve been quite consistent at entering these things and I honestly can’t think of a more enjoyable way to make games. I’ve entered LD 32, 33, 34, 35, 36 and 37, however I’m not entirely sure if I’ll be able to enter LD #38, since I have exams to prepare for. I’ll try to make time, but can guarantee nothing. I might enter something small in the Jam :3

Well, our Jam entry is posted. Now it’s time to recover 😀

Progress Update #2

Halfway through Day 3, and we’re getting pretty close. The majority of the monsters are implemented. The only enemy it’s lacking is a boss battle. The level is pretty decent- it could do with being longer, but I’ll need my teammate for that. Unfortunately, he isn’t about at the moment, but I’m sure he’ll be around this evening. Anyway, here’s a little screenshot:

We have made a decent amount of progress. There really is no gameplay, yet. I’ve been doing all the basic code we need to add in more content, while my teammate has been making more sprites than I know what to do with!

I’m in, it would seem

I just realised how close LD is! I’ll likely use Java/LWJGL, since I just seem to enjoy that the most.

Thank you for watching, good luck in the judging :)

Well, I’m literally making this post five hours before the competition starts. In any case, this will be my fourth time entering Ludum Dare, yay 😀

I will be using:

-Java as my preferred language

-Slick2D for a library

-MS Paint / GIMP for graphics. Yeah, sophisticated, I know…

-Eclipse for an IDE

Best of luck to everyone, I hope you’re as excited as I am :)

Ludum Dare #34 timelapse / post mortem

The end of another LD and the start of a new year of game jamming. I wasn’t completely pleased with my entry, however I was proud that I finished a game, considering the circumstances. Long story short, I attempted to make a voxel game with lwjgl from scratch; bad move. I swapped to making a HTML5 canvas game halfway through. Someone on the IRC sent me a beautiful image of a man attempting to jump off a train and onto the platform. Well, I can now sympathise with that man. It was a wonderful experience. I’m glad to have taken part, here is my timelapse:

Thank you for reading, and happy New Year :)

I may have over-slept…

A dungeon :D

I have managed to create a dungeon that you can walk around in for my LD Warmup game. No collision yet; that’s my next job :)

Third time in Ludum Dare, hopefully entering the compo if all goes well. The current plan is to use Java with LWJGL, however things could change. I’d hope to be making a very simple 3D engine, but time could limit me to 2D. Collision will probably be my main worry, so I’m going to be doing some reading on that. I will be using the fixed function pipeline (sorry D:) due to time constraints. Here is a summary of my tools:

Language: Java

Library: OpenGL, using fixed function pipeline

Graphics: GIMP and paint

Audio: sfxr, audacity and phone for recording some nice natural sounds

Good luck :)

Yay, I did something using shaders…

Ouch, my brain.

I’ve been creating a new engine for my current project using some more modern OpenGL techniques. Shaders are good in the long run; the first hurdle is the hardest.

Perlin Noise in HTML5

A timelapse of myself implementing Perlin Noise in JavaScript. This only took me an hour or two (may have lost track of time) so I’m impressed with how easy it is to make a HTML5 canvas game. I will certainly use the language again in the future. I’ve messed with it before, but I have never come close to releasing a proper game. This may be the first step of many.

Early Water

Obviously very early, and not at all animated yet. The rocky terrain is generated with Perlin Noise. The water is just a flat plane with a nice texture.

Perlin Noise is great. Unfortunately, the way I generate my terrain is not…
