So I’ll try to participate if I have time. This will be my 4th LD competition (I’ll probably do the compo)

This time instead of using my crappy engine I’ll be using something that doesn’t suck – the Love2d engine/framework.

Usually I program in Java, so I thought I would try LibGDX, but I didn’t even get past setting it all up and just kinda ragequit. Meanwhile Love2d is pretty much as simple as it gets to set up. Though I’ve only dabbled in Lua for like a few days, but hopefully I won’t run into many problems during LD.

Anyway, without further ado, the tools:

  • Language: Lua
  • Engine: Love2d
  • IDE/code editor: Notepad++ (if anyone has any better suggestions for this do tell me)
  • Graphics: Inkscape, Gimp (don’t know how well this is gonna go, graphics have always been my weakness)
  • SFX/Music: REAPER, Audacity

Think that’s about it… I guess maybe I should look into some sort of level editors or something…

Well, probably…

This will be my third time (in a row) doing the compo. Hopefully this time I will think of a solid game idea from the start and won’t waste a whole day… and I’m hoping to make a better game this time too. Guess we’ll see how it goes.

Anyway, my tools/tech:

  • Language: Java
  • IDE: Eclipse – I haven’t actually tried any other IDEs before, so it’s not much of a choice
  • Engine: IceEngine – my totally amazing (not really, don’t use it) game engine, which I recently realized should probably be referred to as a library… but hey, nobody cares anyway. It’s using LWJGL for graphics, JBox2D for physics, Beads for audio and jFlac for decoding flac sound files.
  • Art: probably Gimp, but I may try Inkscape if I’ll have time to play around with it before the compo.
  • Audio: last time LabChirp seemed to serve me well (despite the previous LD scoring worse than my first LD, even though I had more sounds in the previous LD) so I will probably use it for sounds again. Maybe I’ll record some sounds to layer with the LabChirp generated ones, but my mic is just an in-built laptop mic, so I’m not sure if that would work out. I’ll also use LMMS for music, which, by the way, recently (not sure how recently) has had the addition of a few new instruments, one of which is “Nescaline” – an NES sound emulator, so if you are looking to create some 8-bit music and have them production skillz, you should give LMMS a whirl (edit: oh, and you should download from their github, I’m pretty sure the latest official release doesn’t have those). Also, I will probably use audacity to clean things up, or something.

Hello everyone,

I’ll be participating in the LD compo and it will be my second time.

I’ll be using:

  • IceEngine (NOTE: I’ve been making it with the mindset that it’s only going to be used by me, so it’s not of much use to anyone else) – a Java engine using mainly LWJGL, JBox2D and PaulsCode soundsystem.
  • Java (obviously)
  • Eclipse IDE for programming
  • Most likely Gimp for graphics
  • Bfxr or Jfxr for sounds (Edit: I’ve just found out about LabChirp from a different post, might use that too)
  • Lmms for music

I will be participating as well. This will be my first LD48 and my second game competition/jam, the first being 7 day procedural death jam, and like the title of the jam says, it was for 7 days, so switching to just 2 will be a challenge.

Anyway, I will be making the game in Java and my 2d engine IcyEngine2D which you will not use because there is libGDX, but the rules say I need to include this so there :)

I am going to use:

  • Eclipse for programming
  • Gimp for graphics
  • Lmms and bfxr for music and sound, if I’ll even have time for that

Well, I guess we’ll see how this goes, good luck to everyone!
