About Hayawi

So I've been programming since I was 10, simple stuff like HTML, and when I was 12 (and bored with making websites), I started learning real languages. Today, I know a couple of languages really well, my favorite being Java, because Java is awesome. That's about it really

So I’m going to be doing the compo (during exam week, so this should be fun). The tools I’ll be using include:

-LibGDX Stable

-Garage Band or Audacity

EDIT: Admin here. It’s fun to get emotional about themes, but death threats are not tolerated here.

Post Compo Post Mortem

So I made the game “How Low Can You Go?” and I honestly had a lot of doable visions for it. Unfortunately I was using a new library at the time so I couldn’t get everything done. I uploaded it only because a couple of friends told me to, I did not actually feel that it was worthy :P.

I was pleasantly surprised at all the great feedback, even though the game has very minimal graphics, content, and no music or sounds. I have started work on a post-compo version which I hope to incorporate a lot of the feedback and my original ideas in.

What went well:

-Relatively easy theme and idea

-I’ve gotten good enough at coding that nothing was difficult for me

-I had a lot of fun hanging out at Ryerson’s Game Maker Union

What didn’t:

-New library with new complications

-Not enough time left for graphics and sound

Anyway, really fun, and hope to do it again 😀

This will be my second Ludum Dare now and I’m pretty excited. I’ll be down at the meet up for Toronto, at the game maker union, so that will be pretty fun.

Platform: Java

IDE: Eclipse

Library: LibGDX (Maybe Slick2D)

Art: InkScape and GIMP and Photoshop

Music and Sound: Bfxr and GarageBand

While I hope to participate in the Compo, I might have to resort to participating in the Jam, but its all good 😀

Unless by some miracle, I get struck with a surge of energy, I’ve been completely worn out. I have everything except the actual AI ready, so its just basically you walking around taking other bases with no real point or flow :'( To be completely honest, the games scope was a feasible one given that this was a normal week, but as some of you may know, it is Ramadan, and I’ve been fasting while working on it, so ultimately I just didn’t have the energy to properly finish it. I will be working on it past the due date though, and just release it as a normal RTS. Here are some pics and stuff.

While its all still without graphics, I have all graphics and sound already done and will be putting it in when I'm finished. It will literally take 5 minutes.

Well, Congratulations to those that did finish, I look forward to sharing the finished version of this game on a later date :D.

While I was, and am still, tempted to write a review of what I’m doing, my work behaviour is wierd, so it usually looks as if I haven’t done anything. Anyway, this post is for those of you freaking out for the deadline and need something to listen to while working.

This will get you through the day:

Almost in the top 100 for humor (#106), and in the top 500 for Audio. Seeing as this was my very first LD, I enjoyed it, and did better than I expected :D. Super fun, cannot wait for the next one.

I’m very happy with all the positive reviews I’m getting from you guys. Although I was dissapointed that all the features I had in mind could not be implemented, I realized that, well its Ludum Dare. Anyway, Thank you so much everyone, and if all goes well, and the good reviews continue, I will be sure to make a better Post Compo version with more levels, features, and music.

To anyone who has not played my game yet; WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR MAN!!!

Oh man was that ever fun. So I finished most of the stuff I wanted to, but I had to cut two levels because I didn’t have enough time, and even though that hurt a little, I’m still proud of my finished product. Evidenced by my twitter feed and timelapse, both of which can be found at my compo page: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-26/?action=preview&uid=20256 I did not get much sleep. So this was the first time I made a point and click, and although it seems easy, it was actually pretty difficult, and riddled with annoying bugs. To top this all off, I was using Slick2D, which I was new to, and the Slick2D website went down on saturday, so that was mostly guess and check work. Although I did not get as much as I had hoped done (which lets face it, this phrase lines most LD posts), I was still happy with my McPixel style game, and after looking at my timelapse, a feeling of pride and happiness overcame me. This plus the fact that the GMU at Ryerson was GREAT. SO MUCH FUN! I hope to see all of you participate in LD27 (and lets hope for a half decent theme this time :P). Till then, signing off.

PS. Be sure to check out my compo at http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-26/?action=preview&uid=20256 and rate on gamejolt if you can. Also, I know I wont win, I entered this for the feedback, so please please please give me some 😀

Whats Up With The LD25 Hate?

Posted by
Friday, April 5th, 2013 7:44 pm

I’ve read a couple of “I’m In” posts, and some keep saying: “I hope the theme is better than LD25”. To be completely honest, I would have loved to participate in LD25 as the theme seemed really cool. Could someone explain whats up with the hate, is it a lack of ideas, or just not feeling the theme?

LD26? I’m init().

Against my better nature to wait to see if I actually do have time free, I don’t believe school is planning anything big, so I am cautiously optimistic that I will be participating. Being my first LD, its going to be pretty fun, and I expect to have a great time.

Tools for the job?

If people got my joke (or a sad attempt at one), you might be guessing that I will be making an applet, if that’s the case, you’re correct. I’ll be using SE1.6 as I noticed that when I used the newer version, people had to download it and it was a pain. My IDE will most obviously be Eclipse Juno (because it’s amazing!!!).

My game will most likely be 2D, and for that, I will be using Pickle and PyxelEdit to make all my sprites, as for my music, I will probably end up using garage band, or if I don’t have time, I’ll have to get a royalty free track, but I hope that is not the case.

Gonna be super fun, hope to see you all there.
