An unfortunate update

Monday, August 25th, 2014 11:57 am

Hey there, folks. In case any of you were expecting or hoping for us to put out a game, that sadly couldn’t come to pass. After learning on Saturday morning that my basement had flooded, I was forced to spend my allocated development time on fixing that issue. Max dropped out promptly afterward, since neither of us have the skill to independently make a game. Better luck next time, perhaps.

Waffles. Brain food. Food for thought.

Food’s finished; time to get to work. If you look to your right, Max is already on it.

A diner, a franchise, a cultural icon

A few hours of brainstorming between Max and I essentially boiled down to the following:

The one-point plan has never looked better.

So in the interest of staying true to our subject matter, the Grunge Band 2014 crew will be paying a visit to a certain restaurant to begin the design process. Good luck to all, and to all a good luck.

A brief introduction

Friday, August 22nd, 2014 2:58 pm

A mere three hours stands between us and Ludum Dare 30. With that in mind, I felt a brief introduction of Grunge Band 2014 was in order before we loosed slews of journal posts. After all, our little two-man dev team is far from high-profile and farther from long-standing. It would be very cool if our performance in the Jam changed that, but that sort of thing borders on miracle status. So I write this introduction not to preempt any sort of notoriety, but to avoid exposition in future posts.

I, the guy with the uptight verbiage, am Joey Disposable Thumbs, who handles the artistic and design sides of the operation. My partner in crime, one Maxwell Ilesupshur, cranks out the code. Our experience with game development consists entirely of a few weeks of FlashPunk experimentation. Needless to say, we are a machine running on optimism.

Count us in

Set sail for adventure, folks—the USS Grunge Band 2014 has plotted a course for the distant shores of LD30. It’s bound to be a treacherous maiden voyage, one fraught with icebergs and repeated mutinies, scurvy and sea monsters. Neither crew member has much of a sea leg to stand on. But this opportunity comes only thrice a year; the will to explore does not wait. Plus, the weekend was going to waste otherwise.

For those interested, the Grunge Band 2014 is equipped with the following:

  • Engine: FlashPunk
  • Language: ActionScript 3
  • Graphics: Aseprite
  • Audio: Audacity, Bfxr

Good luck, everybody.
