Day 2

Posted by (twitter: @Voltrig)

So many ideas with so little time to make them happen. Two days were barely enough to just get the basic gameplay working.
About 6 hours before the deadline I was wondering if I could make the barely playable version happen. Well, here it is!

Play the game here.

Welcome my friends.

After the 2 years hiatus I decided to have another go at the LudumDare,
where our sleep deprivation tolerance and bug avoiding skills will be yet again put to the test.

Toolbox:
Engine : Unity3d 5.3.x
Language : C#
Music IDE: FL Studio 11, Bfxr
GFX: Gimp, Inkscape
Editing: Notepad++

Also with this post I would like to recommend a great resource list for gamedev for everyone who hasn’t seen it yet:

Good luck!

You’ve started to work in a risky job as a starship gun defense system specialist to earn money for your family.
This decision has been made because of the lack of other skills to monetise, and since simulation games were your favorite genre
you’ve noticed that your gaming skills, although not requiring anything more than minimalic knownledge and good perception, can guarantee you good income.

LD26 was just as fun as previous ones.

Now it’s time for two weeks of playing LD games. Woohoo!

First day behind.

After 24 hours of varied assignments varying from programming in beggining to randomly pressing buttons later,
I can finally rest and sum up the first day of having a great fun.

The plan was to get the game fully playable today, and add more content tomorrow.
current state of affairs make it half finished!

if you are interested you can grab a test version HERE (Windows, Linux, Mac OS).

Regarding the competition I’ve seen so many interesting games on the front page today that
I am not sure if I play them to the end of the month*.

*of course got the May in mind.

Stay awesome!

Welcome dear ludum darers.

Can’t forget to write a small introduction post before we all enter the game development frenzy.

This time instead of c++ I’ll give java a go. I am sure that it’ll not dissapoint me.
I’ll be using:

Libraries:
-Slick2d
-Lwjgl
-MiniT*

Software:
-Sfxr
-Fl studio
-Gimp
-Notepad++
-Eclipse
-ExplosionGenerator
-MilkyTracker

* – MiniT is my own pocket java library for use with Slick2d and is made especially for the LD. You can get it HERE.

MiniTechisma Features:
-Efficient XML resource loading
-Component-based
-Easily accessible and expandable game settings
-Basic button object for quick interface creation
-BSD licensed
-Compact
-Loads glsl shaders

Good luck everyone!

Just submitted War’Asaal, an advanced engine for crating LD48 games without a hassle. “coughs”.

War'Asaal_upload

If I participate in any future LD compo, I’ll make an engine week before the actual event. Period.

Goat

War'Asaal2

The game is not playable yet due to the fact that the world looks like you already killed everyone.
There are no enemies yet, or call them “good guys” if you prefer :).

A snapshoot of what’s cooking on my game-cooking-oven.

War'asall

Got Box2D ready and working. Same goes with the game object structure of the engine.
Now I am going to add as much game content as i can. Can’t forget to add proper menu later, too.

I took a part in the quite entertaning LD 24.
With that said, the upcomming one can only get better.

Now I am more experienced, know what is going to be thrown at me and I had realised that 48 hours is much less than what i expected it to be the last time.
Bring it on! There’s nothing that can surprise me now.

My toolset:

Code : Visual c++ 2008 / 2012

Libraries: ClanLib, Box2D.

GFX: Gimp 2.8, ExplosionGenerator v1.1

Sounds: FL studio 10, sfxr, MilkyTracker.

Timelapse: Chronolapse.

Good luck to everyone. Let pizzas and coffee give you the power to finish your game!

My LD24 summary

I am really glad that i took a part in this marvelous event. There’s nothing as refreshing as having to finish a product in a really, and i mean it, REALLY short time. In my case i’ve broken most of the barriers and created a title that i am really proud of. In other words i don’t mind beeing sleep deprived for the next week or two as i’ve developed something exactly as i had it planned.

Now, feeling really exhausted, i am going to go sleep and i am looking forward to seeing what other people came up with in the next few days. I bet that there are tons of fun games that just wait to be played!

Ludum Dare 24 was really fun. Also loved the theme :).

Starts to look fun

I can happily enjoy my today’s meal of cells. I’ll go deeper, because I know that at 5000 meters under the sea level there gonna be a lot of tiny tasty… What is that? OH GOD NO, HELP ME.
