Promenade is up!

Monday, December 8th, 2014 7:40 pm

Our Wild West squaredancing RPG is live! We finished it right under the wire. We’re working to get a Web version up, but right now it’s just a downloadable Windows (Unity) title.

This was a rough one! Both Melissa and I are exhausted. We made it, though, and I think the game is ridiculous and awesome.

Getting close now. Time for sleep. We’ll return to the dance in the morning.

Wild West Squaredance RPG

Saturday, December 6th, 2014 2:00 pm

Future Proof Games is making a Wild West squaredancing RPG where fights and other conflicts are acted out as timing-based square dance challenges. We have a map and have been trawling public domain square dance music archives.

Right now you can wander around the map and respond to basic dance calls and sort of get equipment upgrades!

We found out that merging Unity scene files is totally pants, so we’re trying our best to only have one of us working on the Unity scene at once.

Melissa’s working on putting music in and I’m getting ready to start writing some conversation dialog.

It turns out the game is called Rats Under My Skin! It’s about a sick building and a cat that likes eating rats and has impressive leg strength.

A Cat On the Surface of the Desert

Still untitled. Melissa and I (otherwise known as Future Proof Games) are making a game about a cat that helps to heal an ailing ruin from a nasty infection.

There’s jumping and some simple but cool particle effects.

Sharks and Mountains and Caves

The game now has enemies and a scoring system. If you’re quick, you’ll be able to catch the helicopter on the east end of the map; in the final version, this will come periodically, and the quicker you are rescued the higher the score multiplier will be. There are also some fun little caves with air pockets and mountain lakes.

Or at least you can swim around and collect some stuff. There are some graphics. Obviously, I haven’t yet created player art. Click the screenshot to try it out:

You’ll need to click on it to give it focus. My last WIP had control issues in Ubuntu; I have no idea how to address these, so they’re probably in this version too. Suggestions are welcome.

First Decent Prototype

First decent prototype, and my first post at Ludum Dare.  It’s gonna be a swimmy jumpy thing.  There’s no art yet, but I’ve got a preliminary version of the movement here: http://ludusnovus.net/previews/islands.swf.  You’ll need to click on it to give it focus.
