End of LD 36 Compo

It was AWESOME !, i love the theme, and probably one of my favourite theme so far, and i only participate in Ludum Dare 3 times, LD 32, 34 and 36

Theres lot of people already playing and give me feedback about my game, lot of suggestion about future development of the game and such, its makes me excited and also gives me lot of idea, if….i want to develop in further, lot of work, and other back log project needed to be done :(

this is not exactly the best game i’ve made so far for LD compo, but tbh, its the most effective, clean in term of management and coding, even tho if you look up the source code its still looks like spagehtti 😀

but so far i’m quite satisfied with the finish product, have some bugs, but i fixed it quite fast, and probably now all known bugs already fixed

will make post mortem soon-ish, if i have spare time 😀

still very little of code, more like i want to build up the visual of it yet to make better view of my game goal

no heavy art/texturing yet, only the plug use real material

i aim to be Atari-esque art style in the end

you know where is this going, right folks? 😉

hopefully theres no one have the same idea as mine >.< , its a very generic and lame idea anyway >.<, already brainstorming for hours and comes with nothing except this lol

obviously…i’m in! 😀

My 3rd LD, the last one i join is LD 34, hopefully the theme will be as fun as LD34 😀

I probably will use Unity3D engine for the game, cause…well, thats the only engine i familiar with for making a game, planning on using libGDX or Haxeflixel, but still need lot of practice on both of them, not quite comfortable yet to use for LD.

For art and stuff, will use GIMP or Paint.net, both is the only software that i ever used for light sprite drawing, since i’m not a good artist….or at least never try to be an artist lol

for Music and SFX will use the music/sound generator that i usually use.

can’t wait for weekend!, have fun everyone! 😀

 

Mobile version of Yggshroom?

So….after reading all of the post/comment on my Ludum Dare page, i really considering to make a Mobile version of Yggshroom.

there will be LOT of changes and improvement from previous version, and also this will be not only for mobile, but i’ll upload it on itch.io too

It’ll be free with ads (still considering this)

yeah, i know, it is somewhat obnoxious looking menu screen, but of course its just temporary, i will improve and minimize it so its no this crowded

as for the game itself, still not quite done, some already done correctly i think, i already add more enemy variation, coins drop, etc, but still need LOT of work for it to be a “marketable” product 😀

Yggshroom – Post Mortem

so, first time make a post mortem, as my understanding post mortem consist of what i learn and what can i improve, so lets get to it, writing this at 2:45AM!

first thing first, sorry for any grammar mistake :)

Yggshroom is my second LD jam entry, and automatically my second compo entry, if i look back, theres quite lot of improvement that i made from back then, especially on graphical/aesthetical side, and also i learn a lot from my mistake and comment from the game page

i made this game in about 30-ish hours with all the asset, and the longest time i take is for searching the Game Idea, even thought it looks simple and very silly, believe me, i waste lot of time to think about that :))

What i like from the final result :

  1. I like how at the end it well put together, i honesly at first didn’t think that the obstacle, the generator and stuff will work, but in the end they almost complemented each other, adding additional difficulty yet not feeling too gimmicky/artificial
  2. The visual, even tho some of the sprite kinda rough and not fit the majority sprite very well (especially the mushroom) its mostly my mistake to resizing the sprite without consideration and to draw some sprite in 32×32 canvas and most of them in 16×16.
  3. In the end the game end up like i want it to be, it fit what i imagine/planning in my head, and that makes me quite happy

What i dislike from the final result :

  1. I still use music generator, i know its probably not a bad thing, even LD themself encourage to use them, but still, some music just didnt fit very well, its so “bad” that i need to turn the volume very low on the main game, i hope for next LD i can write my own music
  2. I chose the wrong font, not a mjor mistake either, but really bugging, WTH am i thinking when chosing that font in the first place?, my game using pixel art style, why i chose smooth font? *sigh*
    so, the real idea i chose that font is because i want to show/point up the Norse theme, because…well, Yggshroom itself i taken from Yggdrasil Tree which is from norse mythology, so….yeah
  3. The game too short, yup, this one of my problem too, at first i thought that my game got a reasonable lenght for a compo entry, BUT after played some game, i just realize that my game very short and lack of variation, i need to do better next time
  4. lack of variation, theres quite of people complaining about this, and i whole heartedly agree with them.

finally

What i learn from LD34?

well in the end, i was under-prepared, and my game not polish really well, i was too short thinking about the whole idea and slip up the game variation design, and i’m too “overproud” of my work that i’m not using remaining hours to polish the game up.

Conclussion

Theres lot of room i need to explore,learn and re-learn, and hopefully i can “grow up” and make a better game at LD 35 on April (i think…CMIIW 😀 )

so, this is the end of my post-mortem jam, i don’t know if i even do this correctly lol

after long and tiring day, finally its done, probaby not as good and polish as i want it to be

but you know, whatever, i actually quite proud because this time my spriting job quite good (even tho couple of them i still need reference)

the code work still really messy, it seems i’m not improve much on coding, need to learn more in the future

next LD i’ll try to make the music by my own!, now i still use the randomly generated music, do i need a midi keyboard for this?, hmmm

I’m certaintly in!

this will be my second ludum dare, i hope will do much better than last LD 😀

Game Engine: I still don’t know, i honestly don’t, i want to use unity, it’s so tempting because i already quite familiar with it, but i want to use something different, still note sure what, i’m familiar with C family (C,C++ and C#), java a little bit, HTML and JS, if anyone got a suggestion please leave a comment 😀  (i probably will not using it now, but i will certaintly take a look at it)

Music: probably pixitracker, but still not sure

this is my first time participating ludum dare, quite done with the coding, and now tried to made the graphics
i’m not good at drawing at all,  this is literally my first “usable” pixelated i ever created, thanks ludum dare to help me out from my comfort zone as coder 😀
