Post Mortem(sort of)

I did 4 LDs (not to mistaken with LSDs) so far.

LD27 was awesome.

LD28 I did submit while being sick the second day(not due to drugs).

Ld29 was a jam, where all my team-mates broke they’re equipments or got sick, and two days after it I passed out.(not because of drugs)Ld29Capture

I couldn’t participate to LD30, met John Conway instead :)

And LD31:

Here’s the entry.

First LD in a while that went well.
As usual, I forced my self through the painful hours to reach 3 AM using drugs ☃(yes, where I live, the theme is released at that time).
I was really motivated by the fact the theme could be ☃, ☃☃☃☃☃☃☃☃☃☃☃☃☃!!!!
But no, “the entire game on one screen”.
No idea. Very wordy theme too… Slept, woke up.(without drugs)
Still no idea, decided to definitely add  a ☃ in a shop giving items to the player, while shooting other intruders with a frigin’ gun!
Right, the player,  he moves around. He’ll get jumping, a sword and double jump.
So I made the entire first game part with boxes, and then animated the character:Player_with_swordPlayer_without_sword
(not showing the boxes, they would make my drawings look bad…)
And drew some enemies: Gelure etc. And a background.
The drawing took me more time than coding on the first day(maybe because I am on drugs so bad at it?)
Then I had the idea of… not saying what this is, go see yourself.

Damn I was so motivated to do a post-mortem, seems I’m not after all, have some cat instead 😛 (he is not on drugs)

This is totally the best game I’ve played yet:

Exploit a galaxy, collect triangles… Consumer: you only get 1 galaxy!

Just had to say that… seriously , go check it out!

I’m kind of sick, and I probably won’t have a complete game….

I could polish it as it is, but the theme won’t be very apparent.

Should I still submit my game?

Postmortem: Something that seems important…

So I guess since everybody does one, I’ll do the same!

What I basicly did:

Stay awake till 3 am to know the theme and then go like: “Oh! that could have been expected…”

Next day I woke up got an idea about swords and combos and just went head first in to programming.

By the end of the day, I had the basic game down, which worked! I was pretty happy , and the day after I just spend my time drawing mobs and making som IA.

At two hours from the deadline(3am for me) I took an other computer and decided to make music, got it right, made sound effects, got them right to,

and submitted at deadline-1!

Great! first LD down! Obviously I forgot about murphy’s law:

What went wrong:

– Got a nasty game breaking game, player had 1/2 chance to not be able to play the other half of the game!

-Sound effects are far to LOUD! which kind of made the audio ugly, even worse, a peticular sound effect tends to make the game lag every ten seconds(Right on the theme!).

-GUI is just horrible!

What went right:

– I made the music in a rush, but people liked it!

– My ugly art wasn’t hated outright!

– It’s finished!

1: Music is defenetly worth it, I’m probably never am gonna reuse any sound effect,

2: Never test your game only once: do that many times!

3:Self promotion!

4: I loved the LD experience!

I guess now I followed the tradition.

Should have guessed…

This was my first LD.

So,I had finished things just on time two days ago, and submitted…

Yesterday,I played everyone’s games and really enjoyed it.

Today I realised  I had made a mistake around half way of the game preventing it to continue, totally dissapointed I thought like:

“I’ll double check next LD…”

Until I accidently read:”MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.”

So I corrected the mistake and reuploaded the .jar!

I felt relived.

But then I learned about the D=R-5*C^0.5, C topping at 100;

So I could deduce every game gets  about 50 ratings for a 100 coolness, which means, since 27 people played my game ,23 are left.

That’s less than half.

Thats why I posted this here, to get more feedback on what I really did.

PS: improbable question : What is L = loser?
