…this is why you should know what you’re using well.

Guess I’m just not good enough at Python or PyGame to undertake… any project, really.

Looks like I’ll have to drop out, guys. I’ll still try making a game, but I highly doubt I would be able to finish it in time. But hey, I’ve learnt a good lesson, and besides, setting my own goals is something I need to work on.

I will, however, definitely play the Ludum Dare games, considering they look pretty neat so far.

Now, time to work on some little projects on my own time!

Okay, going back to my previous toolset.

Damn, I just keep on coming up with new ideas, don’t I?

Yeah, yeah – Python, PyGame, GIMP, all that stuff.

Forget what I said about what I’m going to use.

Instead, I’m going to use PuzzleScript!

Looks pretty fun and simple, and I’ve always wanted to try it ever since I saw it.

Now, time to make up for lost dev time…

I’m in!

I’ll be doing the Ludum Dare compo!

I’ll be using:

  • Python and Pygame
  • The GIMP
  • Tiled

I hope I finally finish and upload a game!

It’s not working out…

Sorry, guys, but you can now count me out of the contest. It turns out that since I’m somewhere else away from my workspace (read: my house), I can’t connect to my project. And since I’ll be away for a substantial amount of time, combined with the fact that I don’t really know how to use StudioCraft that well, and I’ve changed ideas two times, I decided that it would be better off to save it for next time. Luckily, the next Ludum Dare is in August, so I’ll probably have time to learn Pygame or something. But either way, do note this: I will be back.

I’m so frustrated!

I have no idea of how to open an interface in CraftStudio, and there’s no guide to the Visual Scripting. Time to dissect other’s code and find out!

Well, that didn’t work out…

It was just frustrating trying to work such an idea out, so I semi-trashed that idea (it’s still there) and decided to make a sort-of turn-based strategy game in which you have to cleanse the land of all of it’s complexity, meanwhile you have to protect your base from everyone else. Wish me luck.

Finally done some simple player graphics!

I finally was able to get some stuff done! A simple spaceship for the player. I was thinking of having modules for the weapons and abilities and just have them pop off as they go offline, but A) that would be too hard for me to do in the timespan that I have, and B) I would have no idea how to give them back to the player, so I scrapped that.

It's a start...

It’s a start…

Don’t worry, it’ll have to do with the theme…

And already I have an idea.

Well, that was quick to get down on virtual paper. My idea is a top-down scrolling shooter, in which throughout each level, your weapons and functions go offline, one by one, and during the final level, you would get them all back throughout the level. Where does the “minimalist” theme come in? Your ship’s skill set gets more minimal throughout each level, up until the halfway point of the second-to-last level, where it’s as minimalist as it can get. I was thinking of having a mother ship power one of the abilities, but then I just felt that it was too gimmicky and too hard to program, and didn’t fit with the “minimalist” theme overall. So, yeah, that’s my idea. I’d welcome any comments and constructive criticism on the idea, as well as any improvements of the overall idea.

I have an idea to shed off the hate…

Maybe we should all do something unique with the minimalism theme. We all think of minimalism as being super-basic, when we can make it something different, something other than that. Let’s see how many innovative things we can do with the theme; make it not hated so much as it is. Besides, we could have gotten “potato”. What would we do with that?

Only one thing to say: I’M IN.

Alright, guys, this is going to be my first Ludum Dare! I feel like I’m up for the challenge.

Tools I’m going to be using:

CraftStudio (just to try it out)

And I’ll probably try out autotracker, see what it can do.

Wish me luck!
